Doesn't converting an mp3 to aac lose some quality though?
Probably best off doing it from the CDs if you have them although that could take a while.

You'll have both, it doesn't delete the mp3 when you convert it. Backup the mp3s before you convert then you can delete them all when it's done.

If you set iTunes to 'Import and Eject', and are connected to the internet so it can access the CDDB for the names n stuff...you don't have to do much apart from feeding a stack of CD's to it...

dont have all the cd's.
why do i need to back them up if it doesnt get rid of them?
- ribit0
Well you might want to remove them from the Library and folders just to get rid of the duplicate titles...

Here's another lie.
The 17" Powerbook battery is advertised to last 4.5 HOURS!!!!!!!
Try half of that.
And don't try telling me to dim the display and use Excel and Word on my > $3000 computer.

Get them to send you a replacement battery then.

i bought the older model 20 gig 8hrs life 2 weeks ago. at most 5 hrs. but all my songs are 192 mp3 - that convert to aac and lower bitrate makes sense. i think i might try it. i took the ipod back though and got a refund as the new ones were released. gonna buy the 40 gig one this week prob... do u know if they got rid of that pause between tracks with the new model?

I have a 2nd Gen 10B ipod and my battery last about 6 hours... I can't see why people complain about this. Out of every electronic device I own the ipod battery last the longest yet this is the issue most bitched about.
I rather bitch that my digital camera battery dies after 40 pics, or my laptop battery can't even make it through a whole DVD movie, or my cell battery can't stay charged longer than a day.

my MD lasts 15hrs with one AA batter. i would think they could get the ipod to do the same maybe even better!

i got these sony ones from turntable lab and they sound great without any eq's... i usually can pull like 8 hoursish when i'm out snowboarding

mine lasts about 13 hours

I believe there is a new device by Belkin which attaches to the iPod dock and you can use AA or AAA batteries if you are on the go and unable to charge up.

nice.
im converting my music to aac as we speak.
hopefully that is the remedy.

mp3 is a compressed version of the original file, converting it to acc is going to convert it again, you are going to end up with crappy quility music. you are downgrading twice.

I didn't read this whole thread, but doesn't it have to do with output?
The louder you play it, the more juice it takes. if I use my high output DJ cans turned up my battery dies in a couple hours, but if I use a crappy pair of buds, it lasts a lot longer.
I bet their 12 hour claim is based on a very low volume using low output headphones.

Toe-knee - do you know that from experience, or is it theory? I'm kinda interested in hearing what happens to warheros files.
- toe-knee0
you're compressing an inferior version of the original file, of coarse its gonna be poorer quility that ripping from cd.
its like a photocopy of a photocopy of a photocopy.

change a format = lose a generation in quality...
