no way mine lasts 12 hrs.
is there really anything i can do about it ?
- toe-knee0
so people are still falling for the lies then
- warheros0
haha, so this is pretty common?
i kind of figured. ah well. im good with 6hrs or so.

Do you use mp3 or AAC? Apparently it makes a big difference.
- warheros0
really? why?
i use mp3's.
- scottdotexe0
I *hear* that the ipod was designed specifically for AAC - a newer and more streamlined compression that causes the hard-drive to spin less. When you use mp3s in an ipod it has to do more to read them and thus drains the battery quicker.
You can make AAC files by ripping with itunes.I might be totally wrong about that - it's unconfirmed hearsay.

i haven't tested mine for 12 hrs straight though, but i wasn't gonna believe that to begin with. i'll be happy as long as it lasts me on a 5 or 6 hour flight, i can charge in airports.

using any of the eq's also eats batteries. Just get good headphone and you wont need any eq's. those white buds are pretty poor excuses for headphones
- warheros0
yeah, i hear that, toe-knee.
no way in hell im going to convert all my mp3's to aac, when all my music is on my PC anyways.
oh well, ill deal with it. still love the ipod!

never read the fine print:
1. capacity based on 4 minutes per song and 128-Kbps AAC encoding.
im sure the battery's life was based on this as well.

scottdotexe is right.
its real easy to convert mp3 to aac which is btw mp4.
- warheros0
how do you do it?
provide links to apps if possible.

I thought they were called m4a files?
- Kidneon0
under prefrences in iTunes change the importing to aac. then select all the songs and under the advanced tab hit convert selection to aac. done.

Theres a lot of info in there...read the Help!!!
- warheros0
nice, didnt know you could do that
- warheros0
though, that's not going to change the permissions/authoring on the songs is it? like it wont let me transfer to my ipod or burn discs?
- ribit0
no it wont...they dont want to do bad things to you...really.
