but why should it be 'expected' - is a designers freetime worth less than other people? Do designers earn such a large amount that a few hours overtime are part of the deal?
I know its 'the way it is' but its utter bollocks.

I usually get into work about 9:20 and start working around 9:45. That's me until 6pm. Don't mind it but if I had the option I'd start earlier and finish earlier.

Its well shit and I really hate it. after 6pm I see that as 'my time' not works.
It seems were forver chasing our tail...why!?!? Why is everything always due for tomorrow....Can't clients wait!?!? Do they think our job is easy....whinge whinge moan moan bitter snap moan whinge bitch...blah blah blah...etc etc...

rasko.. the reason certain designers are expected to work unpaid overtime.. is mainly due to slacking all day posting shit on NT. ;)

now that i'm finished with the whole thing, i can come out and tell it like is. i WAS a high flier, i admit maybes i was paid slightly too much(£56k), that was my 'pay', on top of that i was writing for trade mags in the U.S, and lecturing on a Risk Management BA(Hons) course in dublin for open scholastics, so i was taking home a hefty sum, which i mostly spent on travel, cars ,booze, golf, clothes, women, strip clubs, charity, drugs,furnishings, pelting, leather, knives, food, stained glass, art and investing in Mewstoday(a property renovation and precurement project)-anyway, now i'm out and getting some on the job training on being a licenscee in the drinks industry. i am in charge of only three people now, plus harranging the brewery, why, previously i was in charge of up to 22(+1gay). the business is daft and half the people in it are fucking daft, and mostly homos! well the lions share i met were anyway, lisping gays, i didn't need that. yabba dabba dito! daft eh?

I think what's really annoying is that other people are disorganised and then expect you to dig them out of a hole. We have to work with a lot of people who have never really been any good at anything (are you watching project managers and marketing types?).
Oh yeah, and why are there are always so many vacancies for project managers etc but not for those of use who actually do the work?

When I took the job i was told overtime was required and unpaid. Simply put, I have never made secret of the fact I think it's bullshit. What's more, I have to put up with everyone else treating me like a slacker because they choose to stay late every night and come in over the weekends. I have 0 sympathy for these people. If they actually said "no" for once instead pandering to the "requirements" of the managers and accounts handlers, we might get some badly needed staff.
My contempt for these types runs deep. Just what else do they have in their lives? Big Brother and a damaged set of moral fibres.

down tools at 6pm, simple as that. And maybe once in a blue moon stay back and do an hours overtime when its really needed, kick up a fuss about it, make them pay for your dinner and the taxi fare home and moan for the entire hour. They will think twice about asking again.
