yeah, because they're personal to me. I called a local museum to see if they were worth anything or if they wanted to use them as a loaner, but they never got back to me. They aren't D-Day things though, more like droped off on an Air-Base and then they were artillery guys blasting shit out. fun fun!

alright now I have to get them, you've motivated me, I'm calling my mommie to fetch 'em. If you've seen Saving Private Ryan, minus all the hype patriotism BS, it gives a good account of the Nazis tearing those soliders up.

i was going to mention that man...watching a documentary before I saw the film they had this bit about how Spielberg had a private screening for some veterans...and so many of them broke down during the beach scenes because it was so realistic.
When I saw it myself it really gave me an idea of the absolute horror that it must have been to land on D-Day.
Hell on earth.

Looking forward to seeing those, JazX. The first time I saw Arlington I shed a tear. It's amazing and sad. My first time in Paris I met an old lady in a laundromat...she told me she had a crush on an American GI during the liberation. We sat and I listened to her stories for a couple hours.

you should have recorded her pocho. good content for stuff

so, I was watching the flick, 'Patton' the otherday with George C. Scott. It's still brilliant and he was a bad-ass. He started saying things at the end of that movie that still make sense today about war and politics.

My grandad was an English Marine in the war - he survived D-Day and went on to win a load of medals - which I now have.
It was the stories he told me as a young boy that instilled in me the love of history and historical warfare that continues today...

2 years ago i walked into a mcds and this old guy walked up next to me with a black sheep squadrin cap on. i almost shit. i asked him if he flew and he said yeah. i bought his food and asked him if i could sit and talk for awhile. his stories were amazing and he said he didn't mind talking about them.
after he asked why i was so interested. i told him i saw the tv show when i was a kid and fell in love with flying.
then i thanked him. as i got up he asked why.
i said this. 'i thank you for my freedom. you fought so that i may live free years before i was ever born. and for that i thank you.'
we both choked back the tears and that was that. i still feel good about that day.
the greatest generation of men and women ever.

My grandfather was the captain of a battleship designed for sinking U-boats.
Unfortunately, he died several years before I was old enough to be interested in the matter.
I try not to think of all the precious interview material that I lost out on.

supposedly I had another great uncle that was a Nazi, but whatever he was forced into Army Service for Hitler. We don't talk much about him. (x_x) I'll sort those and scan.
