War photographer Robert Capa, was in the first wave of US troops to land on Omaha Beach, his photographs from of this are very haunting...

- this is just the honorable discharge he received with medals and the fact that he got shot down in Luxembourg in December of 1944.

my grandfathers brother was killed on one of the boats that was rescuing soldiers before D-day.
ever since finding this out I have had an interest in ww2.These days, a couple of soldiers get killed in iraq and it's terrible news and governments are in uproar...back then thousands died in just a few minutes and it just didn't seem so bad to people. Incredible how perception of war has changed but war still happens.

my gf was building, as an engineer the fortresses in the swiss mountains where we should flee and fight from against the nazis. pretty interesting. there weher many ppl here who helped refugees to stay in our country.

in fact, if you look at the Surname in those doc's I posted, my grandad was of German hertiage shooting his own people so-to-speak. And that's very true. You either fought for the Nazis or you were erased from DE.
