It's not really about an alien invasion is it? Especially by the time you see the alien. That style of duplicity isn't ready for the blockbuster theatre going crowd.

no it's not about the Alien- it's about yet another struggle with faith and intinct- boring Sidney- boring, boring, boring.... the scare factor is the Alien- the scare factor is the reason we go see his movies- he KILLED the scare factor with the toy Alien... as I hear his does again in The Village with a monster that looks like it came from "The Dark Crystal"...

I think you're right, he should have barely shown it at all.

I liked Signs for the most part, but I agree that it could have been a lot spookier had he not reverted to the old guy in the rubber suit trick. The ending was really lame too. Water? What the fuck?
I'm supposed to go see The Village tonight, but now I'm kind of worried. Maybe I'll talk the woman into paying.

THIS IS HOW IT IS:
m. night shama-longa-ding-dong has great style, knows how to pace a film, but cannot make a good ending to save his monkey ass.
I don't mean bruce was dead the whole time ending, I mean the ending ending, wraping shit up ending, cause bruce says all that bullshit to his wife and ruins everything.
unbreakable is a near perfect film. again, he fucks up the ending with a freeze frame of some crappy text that doesn't fit at all and leaves you without the right amount of punch.
signs has good hitchcock tension, and m. night's character is great, but "swing away" is some seriously lame bullshit. the whole faith theme is lame, faith is lame.
village will have great style and tension but also another lame ending, i'd bet anything on that. and I'm still going to see it so m. night wins anyway.
go India go!
love w.w.

I'm not sure if he wants to have a chocking ending in all his movies. There were some moments in the Village that I was terrified by that reality and that what it was about.

*and that was what the movie was all about.
*coghs*

Movie sucked:
http://www.suntimes.com/output/e…I want to post the ending so frikkin' bad!
Hell, I'm waiting til someone throws that joint up on torrent.
Trailers look awesome.
But notice how M. Night never ever includes dialog in his trailers? I wonder why? Shitty perhaps?
- scarabin0
i haven't seen it, but the trailer reminds me of that ps2 game siren
- lvl_130
friend of mine saw it last night. haven't talked to her, but it looked kind of cool.
- lifeinsodium0
anyone else seen it then? i thought it was pretty bad - worst of the Shayamlan movies. I loved 6th Sense, Unbreakable and Signs - but here Shyamalan is what ruined it.
had it not been for all the hype, totally misleading trailers and the fact that everyone was expecting a surprise ending - it might have been a decent movie.
i felt quite indifferent about the "surprise" ending and went in to watch The Manchurian Candidate - which was awesome.

I'd like to contribute to the hate on this thread. Signs was one of the most laughable movies ever, and 6th sense was so overrated it hurt. Anyone remember the flashback to his dead wife saying "swing, swing!!!!!" somehow now meaning "hit the man in the alien suit with a baseball bat!!".. that was deep. And come on, we all knew bruce willis was quite dead in 6th sense, the fact that he plays it like a secret just makes the lowest common denominator think its genius because they had to work so hard to figure out what it meant.
Rant over, and may good filmmakers prevail.

Saw The Village. Thought it was good. Great photography. And, I jumped out of my chair a couple of times. I'm amazed at how critical many of you are being when you haven't even seen the movie! Try forming your own opinions...

Not a spoiler, but unless they actually did change the ending, I will say that this film falls under the category of Twilight Zone-Ish©.
He's a good filmmaker with, yes, a gimmick, but Usual Suspects did the same flip-flop, and everyone loved it. Everyone likes the feeling of realization.

since we worked on the website we got to go see it opening day. i felt ripped off and i didn't even pay for a ticket!
sucked from opening credit to ending credit
