yeah i know. I understand that side of it. But i also think it gives more sense of meaning to his death. Americans don't wanna see the slaughtered corpses of their boys and go "oh man, so pointless, war, what was their life worth?" and then someone chucks a flag on it and its like "aha! their spirit has been sewen into the fabirc of the naiton, fabric of america! they are now immortalised and didn't die for nothing!"
Soler man - u know what did fuck me up when i was young (bout 4)? I saw a naked transvestite, and i swear, until i was like 9, i was convinced women grew dicks when they hit puberty. Now that is fucked up :P

I meant the league of nations but couldn't think of it.....UN came out..my bad..
I think that the media is pushing things, really. Even before the Janet Jackson thing...they've been slowly pushing things. News is suppose to be no-biased but if you pay attention, you can tell which side the news anchor, producer and photographer are taking on anything. Used to influence the minds of others..sad

I think it's not just a question of censorship... It's also about responsible reporting, considering the consumer and community...especially children.
Do they need to put everything in your face whether you and your family want it or not, or could they could put the pictures on page 2? (and consider what they run in prime time TV news?)

Totally. You ever watched fox news? Holy shit, i couldn't believve the crap they were comin out with when i was in the US. Things are so much different in england (we're so reserved). But things are changing here too. You know what i blame? Neo-liberal free market capitalism. Especially the one practiced in america for hundred of years - and now being ferociously exported all over the world. Its all about what get's profits baby. No-one wants to raise standards for the good of society. hmmm... maybe thats a good thing.

hitler also instigated the creation of Volkswagon and the Autobahn (federal highways)....he was still a genicidal madman...Saddam may have been voted into office, but undoubttedly it was under duress.
I wouldn't want my kids to see pictures like that. Hollywood is one thing...Saving Private Ryan and We Were Soldiers showed the horror that war is..but it ends when the credits roll...images like that....they stick in your head.
I still have visions of those people jumping from WTC...

The images of war should not be hidden from anyone regardless of age.
You shouldn't grow up playing soldier in the woods without knowing what war really looks like.
Look at all the 18-19 year olds going AWOL or commiting suicide over in Iraq. It's alot more than they report.
The "Army of One" commercials worked on alot of gung-ho patriotic kids that now know REAL war is nothing like the GI Joe Cartoons.
Also, as far as censorship goes..maybe they should show what the US soldiers have done to the people in Falleujah PRIOR to the 4 slayings. What effect would that footage have on the average American?
- ribit0
I'm not suggesting hiding the images, just not splashing them everywhere without consideration of the media's responsibilities.
- xaoscontrol0
Porche developed the VW, yes. Hitler, however had a vision of a cheep and economically sound form of transportation and invited Porsche to develop it. That was in 1934.
I'm getting off track.
Somone said something about how horricfic images effect adults more than kids...I doubt that,,,and if it is the case, it's because they have become decensitised (sp?) from what I one might consider too much exposer to graphic images on TV.
It's our job to monitor and police what our own kids watch, really...but youd think that networks would have responsibility to choose when is the right time to air such footage.
- xaoscontrol0
I'd like to see what the US soldiers have done in Falleujah.
Guaranteed: what the US media shows us in order to spawn the right kind of interest is nothing like what a news outlet like Al Jazeera would show to the Arab nations. I'm sure they've showed all sorts of footage of the civillians who died from the various US bombs that were dropped. It all despends on where you live and what news outlet you watch

xaos, I ain't trying to be a punk. but i'll bet you a buffalo nickel ;)
Thanks for your input on the thread! Word.

What really makes me anxious is what we are going to do in retaliation. And you know it isnt going to be pretty at all, especially with our Cowboy President.
- elwolverton0
Retaliation, while not a pretty thing, is SO crucial right now though. If we don't retaliate, we send this message to thousands of Iraqi brainwashed youths: "You can get away with murdering innocent people! Go for it!"
That shit has to be stopped.
Yes, innocent Iraqis have been killed by our troops, but not overtly. Their civilians die by standing too close to a fanatic with a grenade. Our civilians die by mutilation from an inhuman horde.
That crowd's attack on the cars is the most classic example of cowardice in my recent memory.
