haven't seen the film yet but it doesn't matter what's all the cursing and controvercy about. christ did'd just came and was crusified for no reason, it was the plan of God - the only was to have brought man to grace with God. Funny how ppl make a big deal over it "i'm happy he did" it would really suck if we still had to offer burnt offering ... owch

Gibson's 'Passion' is devastating, uplifting, LA Daily News...
http://www.dailynews.com/Stories…contains an interesting response to some of the less favorable reviews...
"Yet more curious than the charges of anti-Semitism, which stem from a real history of real suffering, is the hand-wringing over Gibson's violent depiction of Christ's final 12 hours. Newsweek describes the film as "relentlessly savage." The New York Times says it "seems to arise less from love than from wrath." The New Yorker calls it "one the cruelest movies in the history of cinema."
Yes, "The Passion of the Christ" is a violent film, but certainly not more so than, say, "Reservoir Dogs," "Gangs of New York," "Kill Bill" or any number of movies that have won the praise of some of the very critics now denouncing Gibson's gore. It contains cruelty, but it's not itself cruel, like, say the wretched and critically acclaimed "Seven."
And its violence, while intense, is never gratuitous. Unlike any number of bloody films that have made millions in recent years, the depiction of pain and brutality in "The Passion" isn't meant to appeal to our morbid fascinations, but to horrify us with the ugliness and the brutality of the sins we commit every day."

Pardon my commmenting without yet having seen the film (tickets for tomorrow night), but I'm just bewildered by the criticism of excessive violence. It is historical - this is what he endured. Physicians and historians alike tell us that the torture was this severe.

due to all the amazing emotion responce.. (xrusos) I am anxious to see the movie...(sunday) especially for all those searching for something to believe in ... I think this will finally be the answer.. for me at least

pufeta,
I may have misunderstood what you were trying to say, but one should never base their belief in anything on an emotional response. Emotions fade.In fact that is one of the biggest reasons I didn't care for Passion -- it seems to only want to get you all worked up emotionally...

jarmstrong,
you are right... thats not exactly what I meant.. I just feel as if latley my faith has somewhat faded.. I would never base what I believe on a movie..
But thanks.. I am just annoyed with everyone trying to push religion down my throat... it gets annoying..I just dont want to end up one day believing in Nothing....

pufeta:
I was trying to avoid getting sucked into this thread...i've been fighting with my beliefs for awhile now. My mom and aunt let me know they'd babysit so my wife and i can go see the movie. we declined.
we get religious emails forwarded to us constantly and all i can think is "leave us alone!"let me make up my own mind.

Gibson's Father is a rabid anti-semite who recently was quoted as saying that most of the Holocaust did'nt happen and that Alan Greenspan (a jew) should be lynched.
Like father like son.

And their eyes were opened; and Jesus straitly charged them, saying, See that no man know it. - Matthew 9:30

well this thread has become quite the little hangout for Christians.
I'm still very interested in reviews from people though. especially reviews from those who don't come from a christian background, or if they do, aren't practicing it now.
i'm also interested to hear from those that take the film for what it is on screen (rather than debate snippets of press hype).
much thanks to randy/atomica for his sweet review.
and i look forward to reviews from transfatty, loudubs, and burrhead.

omg, this is just gay.

I have nothing against jews, but they do run the frikkin film industry, wether they're good or not and this just pisses me off.
It's not as if this movie is going to breed a new hatred for jews or something. Damn annoying.

I feel bad that Jesus died a virgin.

Retro,
I just love sentences that start with:
'I have nothing against Jews/Blacks/Muslims/Asians, but...'You say 'they do run the frikkin film industry'. Who's 'they'? I feel Double-fucked, I get your bad-mouthin' but although I'm Jewish I don't own a major film studio.
How about I blame you for killing my grandparents? They where murdered by christiansÑdoes that make all christians murderers?
I don't give a flying fuck about Gibson's movie or whether some Jews , 2000 years ago, killed another Jew (yes he was Jewish tooÑalthough he also wasn't in the film industry).
Let's say they did kill himÑis that the fault of anybody living today? One of my best friends grandfather was in the German SSÑdoes that make the Holocaust my friend's fault?
People will find excuses to hate each other no matter what happens.
Just look at some of the reactions here when someone looks for help and doesn't know muchÑthere are always people just waiting to humiliate and ridicule and show how smart they areÑnot to help. Let's make fun of Wendell, he doesn't even get it.
As one Jew once said:
'Let him who is without sin cast the first stone.'
People can't choose the color of their skin or their heritage. Judge them by what they do. And even thenÑdo it carefully. As for the filmÑGibson should thank the stupid anti-defamation league, because thanks to themÑhe has a hit.

wow is Danny Glover in it?
