i used to love hanging out with the interns when i worked at sony and talking about their future with them.
those people are the only ones that are slightly behind me where i might have some insight on things they dont know yet...
but theres so much i dont know either. ive actually tried to reach out and connect with some people here in LA i admire or thought i could learn from. they immediately went on to squash every ounce of hope i hate left. (thanks guys).
i wish i could be a teacher.. but im not good enough yet and i dont have a degree AND i think in that setting.. most of those people dont appreciate what youre doing and they'd rather be in bed.

"most of those people dont appreciate what youre doing and they'd rather be in bed."

robotron3k: too bad im enguaged so that plan has a lot of holes in it.
r_gaberz: i think theres something to be said about actually spending time with someone though. no message board can do for you what a real live person can.

My brother was a mentor to some 8 and 9 year old kids in my neighborhood years ago, taught them how to pop wheelies on their bikes, even helped them build jumps and raise a little money for protective gear.
People just thought it was really strange for a 32 year old man to be spending all his time with kids

:) casio.. sometimes that can be a little odd.
im not talking about that kind of mentor.. im talking about career mentors.. for um... adults. :x

may be you should mentor someone. It's like helping someone out by driving them home from work, you're also going for the ride, you can always get something out of anything and i'm sure it'll help if you mentor someone...
you said it yourself, you want to be a teacher

thats a sad reflection of a culture obsessed with the media hyped fear of paedeophila... relationships with children are now something to steer clear of, shit, I even feel like people are looking at me funny if I kick a kids ball back to them in the park.

you cant teach someone if you dont know shit yourself brandelec.

your brothers not a pedo is he?

- brandelec0
you can if you know more than that person

funny, when i lived on the west coast for a while i found my work wasn't well recieved at all. most of the CDs used their position and power to pilfer ideas, but were'nt much interested in help others out... it may have just been my experience working for a giant agency and such, but once i went to the east coast, my same work was well recieved and my phone rang nonstop. IMO, it seems like the west coast culture is more geared for "individual" achievements while the east coast is more "collaborative" in nature... but again, that was my experience, but maybe you should consider challenging yourself a little and getting a new zip code... starting anew def. builds character, knowledge and experience.

you'r right shellie:
In my opinion.... there are just so many hours I can concentrated read text on a computer screen.
It would be really great if someone would just show me how to do things and let me watch him/her.
:/

ok then, it's settled.
shellie, I'LL be your mentor.
sure i'm not famous... or a good speller... or even an outstanding designer, but by god i can cook a mean jambalaya.

it makes me sick. i think so many of the very successful LA deigners and buisness people are so gluttonous. you know who you are... they take so much and never give back.. they dont realize it could all dissapear overnight.
- Casio_Nova0
no, no, he's not :) I think he just saw a way to live vicariously through these kids and their bmx obsession. We really didn't have cool bikes when we were kids.

i can't wait to mentor someone, and he or she will be like, 'yo, this guy was born in the 80s man... the alf era, remember alf, he's back, in pog form'
:P
- shellie0
i need a mentor leaves.. not a date. hah.
- tripleflux0
actually they do know it can disappear overnight, that's why they step on everyone and don't give a shite
- brandelec0
