ummm xbox plays dvds too guys... i have both, they both have their advantages. I tend to play the x-box more though. it's just faster and the resolution on the graphics are better.

hm - really tfs? Didn't know that.
But still, the PS2 is fancier. You should be ashamed if you're calling yourselves designers and have the xbox in your living rooms. Shame! Shame!

xbox plays dvds. i have ps2 but i think the xbox is a better system, better graphics, better speed and also supports surround sound in game. but ps2 has more games, for now at least

yeah the xbox has a cheezy design about it, but it's better all around in my opinion... only thing being that ps2 has more games for it.

The PS2 has surround sound too.
I say go get the PS2, cause it has a better controller, more and funnier games (the xbox basicly only has halo as the only good xbox only game, and the PS2 got lots).
The gfx is probably better on the Gamecube and the xbox, but still, there's no big difference, the PS2 do have amazing graphics (MGS2, Silent Hill, Gran Turismo, Soul Calibur 2 etc).
Also i heard you have to pay to play online "Live" on the xbox, but i dont know if it's true...

I have both the PS2 and the XBOX(Wedding gift). I have to admit that I was a hold out on the Xbox mostly because I'm anti M$, but the funny thing is now I can't stop playing it.
It really depends on the games that you want to play. I used to play SOCOM 2 online because it was so addictive and hours of fun, but after seeing the graphics on the xbox the ps2 sits on the side getting dusty...at least till Gran Turismo 4 comes out :) So look for games that might interest you before buying the system...maybe some friends have either system so you can try it out.
The xbox does play DVD as stated earlier, but you need to buy an extra dongle thingy to get it to work. I also heard that if you chip the xbox, you can't sign on to xbox live...ever.
Just as a side note, the current game taking up my free time is Morrowind(game of the year edition). It's not online, but the game is huge! I have to say I'm impressed...

a) if you know how to bung shway a room alittle bit you can make either system look tight in your living quarters
b) xbox has better graphics ps2 has more gams so like homeboys before me said...find a game that you like and youll be happy no matter what system its on
finally, u said you were gonna buy one and only one for now....theres no greater power then the power of X...sorry ps2
just make sure you get a hot game like crimson skies

gamecube is great if you like cartoon games.
PS2 has the best and most diverse range of games - and the most.
xbox has the best graphics but looks like a brick.
make your choice based on which games you want to play...
