Emo is a historically misappropriated term that's been slapped on anything from new pop-punk to bleeding-heart cheeseball acoustic singer-songwriter junk.
It's just a buzzword to sell new albums.

it's weird how most of us remove the most popular emo and consider it utter trash. dashboard is the prime example - what a waste of talent. try death cab for cutie, grandaddy, saves the day (used to be good), reggie and the full effect, and even thursday is okay. there's some decent emo out there, go look.
