fugazi are as close to emo as good charolette is to punk.
ignore generic terms such as emo, its just a way to pigeon-hole bands so record companies can categorize them for marketing anyways. music is just music, who cares what category if falls under?

Fugazi has been called emo since all the yahoos started that word. It was originally called "melodic hardcore". Basically any hardcore band that decided to say more than "your a friend that stabbed me in the back..." and write songs with chord changes and melody- and actually attempt to sing a song.
Some of the starter were:

Verbal Assult

EndPoint
Flagman
Vision
Split LipThen the first Sunny Day Real Estate came out and all went to hell.
And of course everyone says that "Embrace" was the original emo.
Promise ring turned it into the pansy shit you hear today.

OMG, emo is so 1996..
emo WAS cool, now if it's synonymous with All American Rejects & Dashboard, ugh.. let's not forget you HAVE to have a messenger bag with you at ALL times. i think bright eyes is the TRUE centerpiece of the EMO "movement", and they're damn good. i saw the AAR dudes at the airport a couple months back, seemed like nice chaps, hot girlfriends, lucky bastards.

well... Split Lip my god, I saw those guys a couple of times. Nice fella's too. After some years the band turned into Chamberlain and never heard of them since.
As I think of that time internet didnt exist. People would send eachother paper letters - handwritten(!) and hand out flyers and sell paper fanzines.
So long ago... sniff sniff.Changing times are these.
