ummm the promise ring is a good example. taking back sunday, dashboard confessional.
i'm really not into emo, so i'm not able to make too good of a list here.

an emo is someone who listens to music that allows them to relate to their many "troubles"....like wiht the themes of relationships coming to an end, "my girlfriend just broke up wiht me", etc. (specifically emo rock-rock music that deals with "feelings")
they're usually reallyemotional....have journals, write poems..what not..

get up kids and dashboard are probably the two biggest artists, its almost like gothic self-loathing meets three chord ramones ripoffs

wears punk bracelets or belts (metal studs) and acts all moody and brooding.

i'd say the majority of it is shite.
any musical group that conforms to a "look" is not worth my time. but as with most musical genres, there are some truly talented bands/individuals mixed in with all of the shit.
Deathcab For Cutie is the only one i've found so far that is worth listening to though it is unfortunate that they are labelled as "emo". Bio turned me onto thse guys. fucking incredible band. other than that i'd say don't waste your time.
dashboard confessional can bite a fat one.

that's weird, cause in the early 90s it stood for "emotional hardcore" and sounded a hell of a lot different from what everyone calls emo now.
it's a joke anyway, it's always been. emo is what you call yourself if you're trying to get a girl to think you're deep and make out with you.
