first things first (mt) have always provided me good service in the past...
A client asked me to move their hosting from (mt) to another service. The account runs to the end of the month and so as not to be billed for January I duely carried out the cancellation request yesterday.
Horror of horrors within 20mins of getting my cancellation fax the site, ftp access and mail accounts were all scrubbed.
20mins later my clients on the phone wondering why they don't have mail...
AAAARRRRRGGGHHH!!!!!
Not only that, on my clients homepage is this new page put up by (mt) called 'harmoniousgrid.com' !!! :((((
Now my client is threatening legal action if this isn't removed...
Forgive me but since when has a hosting company ever reacted to a client support call within 20mins... I knew (mt) were good but this takes the biscuit.
The 2 calls I put in asking for help after the cancellation were - you guessed it - completely ignored!
No surprises there then...
Damn it all I feel like such a dumb fuck for getting into this situ. :)

The hosintg is paid for December right? So whay did they take it down?
- Mungo0
Yeah! eaxactly!
AAARRRGGGHHH!!!!
(mt) could always reply here... :))

Did your cancellation sound like you wanted it taken down right away?
I was going to move to MT next year (just for the flash comm server) but there's been quite a few threads lately with some bad shit. Think I'll just stay with my current hosts now. I know loads of people will jump in and say how great thy are but you judge a company on how it handles its mistakes.

one, check the TOS or service contract, its pretty standard to shut off an account the day of canceling, unless stated clearly by the client.
as for your client threating legal actions, good luck, who is doing the DNS. cause if you canceled the account then (MT) has all the rights to do whatever they with with that IP or virtual directory.
I hate to see it happen, but it does everyday. I personally don't deal with (MT) because of the following.
1) I find them over priced
2) I have the resources now not to need themBut I wouldn't say they where wrong for doing this, probably just a miscommuncation on both ends.

well either way call for support shouldn't be ignored.

Mungo, there is really no need to be so negative and rude about this.
I suggest you contact (mt) first before throwing mud.
if it wasn't for (mt) there prolly was no NT in front of you.

So who is good host for Flash Comm Server?
- ToxicDesign0
It's time to start paying "Designer Tax".
$200 a month for your own dedicated server. Then you can have all the control and provide your clients with a true one point of access. Oh you can also charge them for it too.
Or you can give them a disk with the website you built and tell them to get their own hosting and call whoever for hosting support.
So there.

yahoo did the same thing to me earlier this year. I filled out a request to stop reacurring billing for they hosted my email while I was away from america.
Next thing I know they delete the account. No telephone customer service. No wonder why I was moving my email.

hi there,
i don't know how to say this, but, I just registered that URL yesterday with MT around 2pm.
The only thing i can figure is that MT must have messed something up.
I logged into my account center to see if anything is amiss, but nothin.
I also checked that URL that mt gives you when you first register to get to your domain until it resolves,to see if your client's site was there. - also tried logging in via an ftp client.i'm going to delay uploading anything to this URL until you get your situation resolved - as i would hate to overwrite anything of yours if MT accidentally put(s) it somewhere on my site.
I also have put an email into MT's support.
I would have emailed this to you, however you stated that the site's email is not working.if you do have an email that is working, please feel free to contact me:
i can't imagine how horrifying this must be.

Not that this helps now but why didn't you have everything in place for the switch before cancelling?
- kodap0
the bad thing is that (mt) proved more than once that they don't dialogue. that's really bad for them.
Now I know how to avoid this. by not signing up for their services.
sorry, I had to say it
and don't mind the friendship between them and NT because it's got nothing to do with PVAN discussions.

Mungo,
It is unfortunate that your expectations have not been met with (mt) Media Temple. My name is Chris Lea, Director of Operations at (mt) Media Temple. I am here to help you and other Newstoday members however I can. If neededyou can even email me directly and I will be happy to help you or providemore explanation of our services and policies.
Dating back to the beginning of our company, it has always been our policyto cancel and delete accounts in a timely manner once we have received the required fax. This is in fact what we have found our customers ultimately want. If for instance we were to leave the service activated for some period of time, DNS problems may occur that would interfere with normal Internetconnectivity of your new site. (Example: several thousands of users on the(mt) Media Temple network would not see the correct site).
The policy regarding the deletion of the account files and removal of services such as email, ftp, etc., is clearly stated on our cancel service page at the (mt) Media Temple web site here:
http://www.mediatemple.net/suppo…
Specifically, the part under "Important considerations" where it reads:
"Once an Account or Service is cancelled all data associated with theAccount or Service is permanently deleted from (mt) Media Temple's servers, and backup systems. Should you wish to reinstate service with (mt) Media Temple, all normal setup fees will be applied and your content and settings will need to be re-uploaded."
Additionally, on the "Help Switching Hosts" page here:
http://www.mediatemple.net/getst…
we outline quite clearly that when moving between hosting providers you should have your new hosting service in place and operational before canceling your current one.
Of course we are sorry that your expectations were missed, just as we are sorry that you are no longer a customer. However, I don't really know of a clearer way to express our policies than the links above. If anyone does, again please feel free to email me directly.

that reply from chris is enough to make me want to use mt for the resst of my life, regardless of anything that may happen to make me think otherwise!

Thats awsome support when the people that work at (mt) post in NT.
Im sure they didnt mean to screw you. There just a big company and they move thousands of Gigs a month. Hundreds of people joining and canceling. And handeling all those people is hard.
If you want to solve the problem find someone with there own server or go in halves on a server prices are cheap these days for local servers.
mine is .005 a MB not to bad.
- werdna0
I host all my sites with MT and have allways found them to be great. that's not to say that things don't go wrong at times, but that happens with all hosts. If you can name a hosting company that has NEVER had one problem then i'll call you a bullshit artist.
I find it funny how people on NT like to abuse them when if it wasn't for them NT (and pretty much 90% of all other portals) would not be able to afford to exist. think about that before you bitch about them next time.

it does make sense what Chris posted.
That is how i always see (MT), they seem to take EVERYthing in consideration. more then clients could ever think of.
i think that's only smart, very few hosts are alike!
