you said " i mean, its not like we didn't have applications with those features already "
application (s) being the key.
1 yes we do have lots of programs do them all
but.
itunes does themall in 1... simple and sweet.
and it really does them well... those other apps just arent as good... or way to complicated for the need.
yes we really do need itunes..
the organization is enough it its self

ER: you can easily select all the songs on that album in the browser window and hit Control+i to edit all of their ID3 tags simultaneously.
I'm super anal about that type of stuff.
I've spent several hours organizing and tweaking my artist/album titles so they are perfectly identical.

oooo, thanks cinder, like the simultanious edit!
i get about 10mg memory usage with win media player, and about 20mg with itunes, not a bad trade i think.

did your COMPUTER crash - or just iTunes?
iTunes has never ever crashed on my 2 Macs. Ever.
Yeah, it takes up a little more RAM - but it has a MUSIC STORE BROWSER built into it.
I bet the Safari rendering engine is built into iTunes.Someone needs to hack that shit so you can get Safari.

OS X will never be ported to a PC because Apple is a hardware and software company. The two are built together to work together. Porting the OS would mean relying on unconsistant PC manufactors. And it wont be profitable. OS X only cost 129.00.
And with itunes... just wait PC heads. Right now there is a ton of add on software for itunes on a Mac plus scripts and all kinds of shareware apps that rely on it. Now that it is for PC also, in a matter of weeks developers will be offering cool add ons for you too.

i know qburt, i know. but for 50 megs of ram? :
winamp aint as far away from doing all that anyway. it just doesn't burn or have a store. the ripping stuff's all there, anyway. and the library.
- sexypixel0
its very similar to J river Media Jukebox. I think they were influenced by itunes.
In the library is there anyway to make new folders, or does it just diplay all your songs in one window.

oliveira, where are you getting this 50 Megs of ram figure from?
When i open up task manager and add up all the iTUnes realted services i get 32,240 Kb
thats 18 Megs short of 50.
Thats still alot but not that much, also i bet the next revision will be lighter on memory too.iPodService.exe 3,472Kb
iTunesHelper.exe 3,780Kb
iTunes.exe 24,908Kb

I'll stick with my good ol winamp2.9.

its ripping is slow but its a nice tight app

i'm still a big fan of my qcd player and ephpod, but itunes isn't terrible...
oh and about osX on a pc, being that it's built on a *nix architechture, apple could very well bring it to pc's if they deem necessary.
personally i think they would gobble up a great deal of the pc market, but their hardware sales could possibly drop.

ya man im only getting 24-32
- sexypixel0
uses ALOT of ram also, i have photoshop, illi and flash open, outlook too and iTunes is using more than any of those
- sexypixel0

If you can find and download Y'z Dock, you can have your very own OSX dock bar. Fast system required.
Apple threatened to sue the creator of the program and thus order that all copies of it be removed. Luckily I was able to get a copy before all the pimp slappin' went down.
It's still out there. Just do a few google searches for it. :)
screenshot of my desktop (shrunk to 8x6...16x12 file aws too big)

I've read every post here when while I'm waiting for this thing to download... its 20 fucking meg.. thats huge.. winamp is tiny, and don't go telling me about extra shit it has, theres nothing that huge there.
also, 20MB of ram is heaps..
compact mode isn't that compact, when I use itunes on mac I apple+w it and hide the window.
winamp can be 15px high and can double click on the playlist to extend it.. and put it over the top of everything, in the sytem tray.. it has millions of plugins and its mega expandable.
I'm about to install itunes, but thats how I see it right now.
I'll post back soon..
