not everyone shares your opinions, does that bother you?

"smokers are stupid idiots"
no, i disagree. and for the record, i don't smoke, nor would i work for a tobacco company.
some people smoke as a form of stress release. a self-prescribed medication if you will, sans the hassle of going to the doctor and calling up the pharmacy monthly to refil your prozac script.
it's a simple trade-off. a life of easy living for a gamble. a high risk gamble where the stakes are an abrupt end to your life. is it worth it? only you can answer that. personally, it's not worth it to me. my life is important to myself and it's important to my friends and family.
however, while i don't support or encourage my friends' habit of smoking, i don't ridicule them for it. it's their choice.
but i don't look forward to the day, God forbid it comes, that they find themselves invalid, laying on their deathbed at a young age with a month life expectancy.
my friends dad was just diagnosed with cancer. he was given 6-8 weeks. i wonder if he would have done things differently if he were given a second chance... would you?

I am not sure who the opinions question was directed at (Dobolina) but I am fairly sure everyone hear enjoys opinions that oppose their own as well as parallel them. That is why this is a discussion and people are reading/listening to all comments and retorting with their own opinions.

lung cancer occurs without cigarettes.
Both my grandmothers lived to be 77 and 83 years old, respectively and smoked 2 packs a day. cigarettes arent a death sentence. Im not defending it, Im just clarifying facts.

"lung cancer occurs without cigarettes."
correct, but even science cannot tell you whether or not you are immune to cancer, so it's still a gamble...
err... choice... ;)
- grafiske0
Lung cancer does in fact occur without cigarettes, and cigarettes are proven to cause it, and some people don't die from it, but another scientific fact is that it is very bad for you.
There are far more facts against than for, you were lucky to have your relatives for as long as you did, some people are not that lucky.
I am not sure where you are going with this conversation at this point.
Do you dislike when people have opposing opinions?
- mrdobolina0
No, its not that at all, grafiske. I just hate when people say they are going to dance on people's graves and other types of ignorant shit when talking about smokers.
- grafiske0
I gotcha. Agreed. No one wants to suffer, it should not be exploited.

I think someone linked adbusters, but here is a specific campaign that ties into this thread (some fairly amazing content):

I enjoy a pack of cigarettes or a cigar every now and again. I also like a joint from time to time as well. It's not going to kill me unless I abuse it.

The First Things First Manifesto is a double edged sword that requires the active participation of two parties: the designer community and the consumer.
Without the acknowledgement of the consumer its a nice idea.
And since we're all consumers, when are you going to stop consuming?
- Mimio0
The FTF manifesto is slanted, It doesn't even really deal with the economics of competition. Which is why advertising basically boils down to ideals aligned with sex and appropriation. Such a migration could never take place in a capitalist society.

Tell them. maybe they will refine their ideas. Really good points.
