(Off your own design earnings)Just curious. I think it is possible for a few to make it. Make a name, get some high profile gigs, a bit of dough. Im not talking super rich, but if you can pull down a few hundred thou, id say your a rich designer.
So, anyone like that here?

My Creative Director can make near 160k a year if gets most of his delviery bonuses. The principle partners made nearly 3 million when they sold the comapny in 1998.

Born very poor, managed to make enough money with freelance and current job to make US ~50K per year. That's with teaching myself most of the things I use. + Lookit CD sales, which will equate to around an extra 7K per annum, so shit that's only 57K nothing special.

jox, how would you say you are getting there? is it only with owing your own show? would you say you could get there while still working for someone else?

ER > I think having your own thing makes it easier to earn more money, no doubt. It's your call, you're not "just a part of it".
But the main thing is, to make money you have to know how to sell. That goes for everything, not just in this business. In most cases that's more important than creativity and talent, unfortunately. I hope i have a mix of all three :)

I was working with a guy who was importing socks in NYC and he is surprisingly making a small mint every year. Slowly but surely, import/export pays well.

I know it sounds convenient to say, but thats what ive always thought. It is still business after all. Some seem to think its an art gallery.

haha yeah Bio, they're all over the place. They have this little sign on their foreheads so I know which is which. "Amy, 22 y.o, American" is one of them.
