Regardles if you used cracked software or not. This all registration is a pain in the ars. I had to do it for one of my programs, and first I had to wait for the software company toemail me the "key password". Then it took them 20 min, so there I am with my software half installed (and I was on a rush to finish a proyect), then tired of waiting i called, and they put me on this automatic answer machine to wait for another fifteen minutes...
Any way, good for their business (or so they think), bad for the real buyers. An installatyion should not take more than 5 min.And as one of you said. If you need to reinstall (which sometimes happens). You have to go over the all thing again.
My 2 cents.

"That's terrible and they should be the ones that should be penalized, but not the kid that is using Flash for his schoolproject"
Sorry E... This is bullshit. Students are supplied with access to a lab with multiple computers that are up to date, but they are also offered educational discounts on the software.
I bought my own software in college and I buy it now.

whatever I would crack that in 4 seconds flat ;)

Koko is right...
Installs are a pain in the ass now and if some of you jerks didn't steal everything, we wouldn't have the hassle.
Dongles are gay.
- gravityroom0
I love how you guys just justify blatant theft...

This kind of reminds me of the "Drug War". Too many resources wasted on small time users.
The bulk of software giant's money comes from large companys that buy multiple licenses for their staff and buy all upgrades when immediately available. Software giants don't make too much from an individual user. Of course you can group together a multitude of individuals, over a wide area i'm sure, to mirror the bulk of that big company, but in comparison, the companys provide more users than individual users. Hence a bigger profit off big companys.
One other thing, if it wasn't for cracked software, there would be a whole lot less creativity i believe. Compare the ones can afford $500 sofware as well as classes/training vs. someone that likes to learn and experiment on their own without instructural influence.
Long live cracked software!

p.s. All said and done - when you are profiting off their software, step and purchase it.

I'm not saying your totally wrong, but where are you getting this assumption? Microsoft might be a software giant, but I'm not sure Adobe or Maya fit in the same category. I would bet there single users equal their "company" profits.
I don't agree with your creativity thing though. I think cracking is one of the reasons there's too much crap and way too many "designers".

the reason piracy exists is because people don't want to shell out $600.00 for an app they may or may not ever make a cent on.
it's easier, cheaper and a great way to spite the company who's selling their software at inflated prices, to just get the crack.
make no mistake, i'm not justifying piracy, just addressing the main problem at its root.
do i have a solution to offer? yes, offer cheaper software and you'll curb the number of people out there who would write cracks for your software.
many companies will claim that piracy is what drives the cost of software up... that's a blatant lie.
winzip, blender, milkshape, getright... they should take a cue from these guys.just my opinion

Mitsu, good point...
cheaper software. Too bad I already bought all I needed... darn it!!!
- ********0
Mitsu: Understand and agree where you are coming from...but I dont know anyone who has shelled out for apps like WSFTP and the like.......shareware apps still have cracks written for them.

Wish my parents were rich enough to buy me software when i was at college.

"Sorry E... This is bullshit. Students are supplied with access to a lab with multiple computers that are up to date, but they are also offered educational discounts on the software. "
No, actually your is bullshit. It's great you can afford to pay for "discounted" software at your school. So instead of paying $1500 for Director I pay $1350! wowee! (note the sarcasm) I simply didn't have an extra $8000-10,000 to spend on software. I'm happy you could.
btw, don't tell me I could have gotten a loan as that's what I was using to live during school. :)
On top of this, labs are NEVER up to date. When PS7 came out we were using 5. They finally have 6 now... Still behind.
Adobe, Macromedia WANT students to use it for free. Don't you get that? It's simple marketing. Don't you know this?
- unknown0
why do you need to use photoshop 7... isn't 5 just as good
- mitsu0
"WSFTP and the like.......shareware apps still have cracks written for them.
"yeah, this is true and really sad... and there's nothing you can do as a developer to 'open their eyes'... some people were just born blind (and many of them prefer to stay that way).
- IP0
I'm against piracy when money is being exchanged but students and others who just want to try it out shouldnt be persecuted.
As for Demo's that's an option but there are many things left out on certain demo's which you may need to consider in your investment.
Seriously, I would never have bought flash mx if I didn't have a cracked version to screw around on for a month or so. The layout originally bothered me along with usability. That alone would have held me back from shelling out $600 on it. Giving it time I LOVE it but that's $600 less for Macromedia if I didn't have a crack.
- toastie0
patience! the open source flash editor is coming
- IP0
"why do you need to use photoshop 7... isn't 5 just as good"
That was just an example. Every one of our programs were behind unfortunately.
In fact one of our classes, the teacher didn't even have the program! If I didn't get a crack for the program I needed I didn't pass the course. Sad but true.
Again, why does it matter when I don't make a dime off of it? If anything Adobe etc are getting free advertising.
If I were to use a cracked photoshop what program am I most likely to get when I have the money? Adobe Photoshop or Macromedia's equivilant?

HACK THE PLANET!!!

It's just computer software - there's no loss when Joe Bob at home wants to build a personal page.
As said before simply having a site with Flash on it is advertising for Macromedia. "if you want to see my site, but don't have flash, go HERE to download.
Millions of company's HAVE to purchase the software to operate else they will be shut down. I believe that THAT is where the software manufacturers make and depend on their profits. Not on Joe Bob's home page.
That's that, or should Joe Bob rot in cyber-hell for wanting to learn new software and having a "cool" (keep in mind it's joe bob) home page.
