"The visiting research fellow at Adelaide University, who has lived in Australia since 1971, said the chances would increase significantly in the event of a major Al-Qaeda attack on Australia or if Indonesia became a fundamentalist Islamic republic"
*sigh*

Jesus, wouldnt the olympics be boring if this happened!

the only reason the Americans havent coopted Ireland yet is because Bush thinks we're already an American state, somewhere near Idaho.
- jevad0
hahahah!
lol

Dont forget that Austraila is crapping their pants right now due to the threats lately that if Australia gets involved with things... N Korea has said they will fire nukes at em.
scary all aroung in many ways
- sexypixel0
That was the main reason australia sent troops to Iraq. So asamerica would help them clean up the mess up there. scary shit alright. One of N Koreas advisors told australia that if they try and intercept any N Korean ships they will see it as an act of war, but australia sais fuck you, we're checking them forweapons......scary times

Britain will be the 52nd then. Form a queue... oh you already have (typical British). 'Aussie ex-pat'. (I'm moving the Greenland!)

"REPUBLIC" of Ireland Mr. Bunkum
- unknown0
just daft, not as if GB or america would let them get attacked anyhows
- Bunkum0
oop. England (typical English). I'm an ex-pat, what do I know. :)

What a patronising view of australia. "no national sense of identity, no culture" blah blah blah.
A lot of australians would find the idea of becoming an american state fairly repulsive. It's only our government that kisses US arse, not your average dazza or shazza.

There is a massive devide between Government Policy and Common logic in Australia. Politics is largely ignored and considered a 'lesser' occupation. Discuss?
- sexypixel0
Politics in Austalia does take a back seat, but with all the tension surrounding it its slowly coming to the forefront.
The news is dominated by sport and what happened yesterday in the rest of the world. Not much happens here. Its great!

what a ridiculous statement. Im pretty sure puerto rico would be the next state if there was one.
Stop blaming the US for all of the world's problems.
- Bunkum0
I miss Australia but I hated the complacency of common heard Australians. I hope the US doesnt trapple all over it (I want to retire there eventually).

Its becoming americanised. Probably due to the ties with rupert murdock and the fox network. Its all american television here. But I can only vouch for sydney. dunno what its like in other states.
I love how complacent australians are, they've had it pretty good for a long time, would be a shame to see them become as wound up as the rest of the world.
- vespa0
not all australians are complacent. probably the same percentage as the rest of the western world.
eat what you are fed. as long as you aren't hungry you won't ask too many questions. Rupert keeps the whole world fed with his crap - at least he could never be described as complacent!

If people weren't idiots, Murdoch wouldnt thrive like he does.
- vespa0
I think you're underestimating him. He's a clever man with powerful business partners.
Most people don't care about what is happening outside their life as long as they are fairly comfortable. Murdoch taps into this.

It is (was) a beautiful blissful complacency. Its a country that has managed to avoid the spotlight through the years. People enjoy the life they have made for themselves here. Nothing wrong with that.
