Sweet mother of mary i was talking to some friends from the states over here for my wedding last night..and they said they only get 2 WEEKS holiday a year!
I almost choked on my falaffel!
Is this the norm? That's fucking disgusting...I have enough of a problem with the 4 weeks I get...I think freelancing beckons upon my move to denver!!

I get NO paid vacation days or holidays, sick leave or personal time off. So my situation is worse than the lucky Americans who do get 2 weeks or even 1 week of paid vacation.
The office I work at close on major holidays like the Fourth of July, Xmas and Labor Day, but that just means lost income for those dates.
I do plan to take a week off to travel this summer -- but with major financial loss. It sucks. I envy you Europeans with 4 weeks!

Yeah, less than 2 weeks of UNPAID xmas break.
Sadly, it is legal. I'm a contractor for one employer -- working onsite like salaried but without the benefits of salaried -- and a part timer for another employer -- so combined, I work approximately 50 hours/week to make ends meet.
I know work is going to kill me one day...

Ya jevad...Europe has very long vacations....
In the USA Expect 2 weeks if your lucky starting a new job... maybe 1... you might be able to climb to 3 or 4 in some jobs.. if you stay ther for many years..
but ya.. 2 is the norm and paid holidays ussually are included also.. but that pretty much means 1 day for like christmas... its crap here... we need to learn to slow down

ya... we dont ussually get paid for overtime...
and i think its not that we live to work.. as much as its our only option over here because it has been the norm for so long... and Owners of companies are way to greedy over here...
so pretty much we just have to bend over if we want a job

in america, they dont count the weekends on your vacation, so it really only winds up being 10 days for 2 weeks. Its sad.

heh - too right dolan....basically there is no way I am going to accept a job that gives me any less than 4 weeks holiday a year. That's what I've been getting the past 5 years and that's what I worked my ass off to earn.
