At least 2 weeks paid vacation here. Summertime hours (every other Friday is a half day). All Holidays. Sick and Personal Days are like 2 evry couple months or so. Plus anything else needed, my boss is off the hizzle. For shizzle nizzle.

New York, at least, is very competitive and very expensive and people are afraid to take time off, as their job may be gone when they get back. Employers take advantage of this fear. Americans believe there will be some imaginary "payoff" for all the work. We're suckers.

from christmas to new years day our office shuts down, and we get off...this is in addition to our "15 days vacation"....
im salaried, so its all paid...nice....

wow I'm in canada unemployed and going to apreciate my broke ass free time. I've had no interviews scince I've graduated in may. man I need to go into somthing else why do I like this so much! It should just be a hobbie and I could just suck

to our defense here in america.. we do alot of 2-3 day weekend trips .... that helps

jevad, dont expect 4 weeks off. you'll be lucky if they start you with 2 weeks.. even if you ARE a senior. in america senority has nothing to do with title unless youre way up in the ranks. for anyone art director status or below vaction time comes with years worked for that company.
for instance, at sony.. nomatter what position you have, you get 2 weeks AFTER your first year, and 2 days extra every year you work at the company, maxing out at 5 weeks.
unfortunately we just dont have as many holidays. in LA, if youre lucky enough to work at a design firm that works solely in the entertainment industry, the entertainment industry usually closes down for nearly the whole month of december (because of movie release dates), so, design firms that do only theatrical sites shut down as well. mostly because there isnt any work to be done and new projects fo rthem usually pick up in january for spring releases. this also happends in the music industry.
i suggest you do your research in what the design firm you want to work at specializes in.. or work in extra days in your contract before you sign on. otherwise you can kiss your long vactions goodbye.
