Damn right they are the best band ever. I just saw the Cincinnati Lollapalooza, and for the limitations imposed on them they rocked.
The departure of Eric A. was shame yes, but you can't pretend this this the same band of ten years ago. They've grown. They're back and they will blow new metal out of the water.
As for the chillis - getting frusciante back on board was the best thing they could ever had done. I would safely say he is the best guitarist out there today, from the peppers to his solo records - he's on fire.
Fans of Janes and Polar Bear etc you should also get BANYAN. Stephen Perkins project...

Jane's is the best band ever no doubt. THe new stuff is really good. But it will never be the same without Avery.
I saw Polar Bear in Los Angeles a couple of years back a few times they were great live. Saw them play with Banyan once and Banyan had this crazy painter guy behind Perkins painting images on a huge canvas the whole thime they played. I forget the guys name though. But it was awesome though.

Thanks for the link Gummo! I managed to get my hands on both of Polar Bears albums when they came out. It's a a shame that they went out of print almost immediately after they were released.
Eric Avery is the reason i started playing bass. While it's easy to replace him in a touring situation it's not the same thing when they are writing without him; you lose a part of the sound. He was the anchor that held it down so that the rest of the band could go off.
Perry Farrell is one the greatest frontmen ever but without Navarro, Avery and Perkins making the music he's just some babbling hippy flake.

Yes they are the best band ever. I still miss Avery on Bass though.

If you are talking about the same Jane's Addiction that made Nothing's Shocking and Ritual De Lo Habitual then you are correct.
Sadly, that band died a long time ago. From what I have heard the new stuff is decent, but it isn't the Jane's I fell in love with.
