Damn right they are the best band ever. I just saw the Cincinnati Lollapalooza, and for the limitations imposed on them they rocked.
The departure of Eric A. was shame yes, but you can't pretend this this the same band of ten years ago. They've grown. They're back and they will blow new metal out of the water.
As for the chillis - getting frusciante back on board was the best thing they could ever had done. I would safely say he is the best guitarist out there today, from the peppers to his solo records - he's on fire.
Fans of Janes and Polar Bear etc you should also get BANYAN. Stephen Perkins project...
