ape:
1) there is an argument within the scientific community on whether current thinking about race (that it is completely biologically non-existant) is going overboard, and that there are some significant traits associated with each race. ie, African Americans have a greater propensity towards sickle cell anemia and to a lesser extent heart diesase than the general population.
Now I'm not saying race determines psycological traits and so forth or that the racial stereotypes are true. But race as a biological construct is being questioned (despite my glib one-line answer) and you whipping out one newspaper article don't mean squat.
Plus, I can whip out a whole book by leading racial scholars to make your puny article look like a little mental weaking. (Racial Formation in the United States, by Michael Omi and Howard Winant.)
2.) If you agree race is sociological, but then say it doesn't exist, then we can just put some simple logic to use and conclude you're saying society doesn't exist.
3.) Please get off that elitist, marketeres-are-practicing-mind-c... crap.

Hee, hee you guys crack me up, even if it were Martians buying up all this bling, bling Hip-Hop crap they sell, then of course the Marketers would market shit to Martians! You think they want to make money? Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, yep! I would so the same damn thing and get paid! ;)

"Black and Asians are the ones buying the product so we will hire models that are Asian and Black who in many cases do not buy the product and use them in the marketing.
it is prejudice."
if blacks and asians are buying the product, then that's fact. prejudice is pre-juding...making determinations before the fact.
anyway, lets get into some postmodern mumbo jumbo here and say that it doesn't matter at all if the models do or don't use said product.

I don't care whom is whom, buying what is what. If a product is good buy it, if it sucks don't. Whatever makes you happy. My faince is a true black Angolan and I'm white so WTF is there a difference if she wants to buy some bling, bling crap. I'll still love her and then as for my kids in the future. I'll let them buy that crap if it makes them happy. ;)

My point is(i think) that marketing divides people. It divides people by skin colour, income, location, and language.
These divisions are the cause of many problems.
btw, I'm really not trying to be elistis, infact thats the last thing I want to do. So sorry about that.
I just like talking about this stuff

YEH KILL WHITEY!

I think marketing people just try and target a specific audience. I don't think it has anything to do with racism whatsoever. If they can make money with it and have it produced for virtually nothing in countries like Taiwan, Burma or China, then why the F not? I would do the same thing and not care whatsoever.

Just because they don't know what there doing is prejudice doesn't mean it isnt.
Likewise, just because it makes you happy doesn't mean it's right.

Hey Rummy, that thing you where talking about with the asians is exactly what happen at my job.
When I came in, we where a team of 12 designers, 2 of which was asian (me included)... 5 months later, we are 14 designers, 12 asians. All those caucasian-European guys that where here all got laid off, fired or quit. My department is modafukin chinatown man.

Watch David Chapelle show he'll straighten you out, stop taking everything so serious. :)

I know you're not trying to be elitist, but that's the end path of the logic you're taking. It's not obviously but is inherently elitist. think about it: if you want to talk about how controlled the masses are, are you going to say you're not affected?
if you want to turn around and then say you too are affected by it, then you deny there exists free will. (or human agency, as my professor called it.) So maybe now it's not elitist, but it's still cynical.

yeah there does exist reverse discrimination for sure, but it never stands in court systems.
