Got the non-compete non-disclosure contract from bosses today.

One major issue: I can't do side work unless I talk to them about it first. Um, ok.

Don't really care about not using any of their docs outside of the office, don't need em.

I can't run a business in the same field while working for them.

So basically, I have to check in with them about what I do in my own time?

Whacha think about these? Had to sign one yet? Should I have a lwayer look it over?

I have to sign it anyway, need this job right now.

At first look, I think that your own time is your own time. Are they afraid you'll use knowledge you'll gain working for them to your advantage outside of work or something?
As long as you're not using their resources, files, programs, etc. I don't see why they can tell you what to do in that regard.

Tell them to smoke their agreement.

u better ont have ANY good idea while u work there.

if u do, dont talk, dont write it down, dont sketch, dont draw it...

i guess copyrights deal with representation of ideas, not the idea in itself.

do they have those HR ppl that plays tests on u (u know, roscharch, the like) to see if u have a good idea stuck in ur mind?

better use dumb down drugs. beer, the like.

Actually it won't stand up in court. You have a right to make money. Non-compete just means you won't take their clients. And if you do, then they have something on you. But to try and prevent you from making money on the side, while not competing with them for a job, will never hold up. Something about the constitution or something like that.

joyride is right, they can't tell you what to do. about the only thing that can happen is they use that contract as a reason to fire if they ever desire to do so. if you are doing a good job and you do a little work on your own time i doubt there will ever be a problem.

its all abotu dont ask.. dont tell.

just dont go around tlaking about what youre doing and no one will know and there will be no problems. if you go tell your boss about the great job your just scored.. youre through.

the contract is just a way to scare you into not working on the side. most companies make you sign one. if you do and they find out about it... then they can legally fire you if you dont work in an at will state. thats all it is. so keep your trap shut :)

    Thanks!

Not really worried, just feel a bit threatened :(

I definately don't compete for clients with them. They don't take jobs as small as I need.

Good point though, all my most precious/magical ideas will be kept to myself (and you guys). Hey, ya never know...
