well... this IS commercial work fat_hom

sorry joost our view of 'commercial work' differ - i mean it as from the artist for mass concumption like say a cd cover. THIS commercial work you do goes through a 3rd party to various artists and THEN to mass market, quite different.

i wouldn't mind buying a chopper though...

fat_hom, so i'm guessing you're against stockphotos altogether? Or do you just have problem with the Infinity ones?
- ********0
ximera, a chopper, now that's a serious requirement for designers working overseas, hehe... that way you could fly over to Antwerp anytime! :)
- ximeraLabs0
hehe true :)
but to continue where ant and ren stopped, doing the Infinity work has opend lots of doors for me, because it's everywhere.
and maybe i should update my site and start selling my cheap ass a bit more... ;)
- FAT_HOM0
damn trickey on haga ;) i have to stick to my guns now.
I think the 'ideal'situation for a high profile campaign would be to use stock photography for a place holder while working with the ideas and to then commission a photographer and then art direct the shoot. guranteeing original work and employment for the specialist (photographer). [I'm aware budgets are thin etc i did say Ideal]
stock photography is so varied and less personal whereas the infinity series is style specific - i just think joost et al are handing over too much for too little.there was a couple of adds that ran last year at the same time in the uk that used the exact same portrait of a black girl hence why now i can't even remember what the campaigns were for because it confused me.

an alternative to the infinity series might be a collection of small portfolios from each artist to send around for free on a cd so a 'SEGA' can select an artist to work with, pay them well for original work so said artist doesn't have to save up for his/her CHOPPER
make em pay make em pay make em pay
close down the sweatshop production line for the sake of originality

look at it from this view that the peple who use it know that they arent using highly original works, as it can be used by others... as they know this its up to them to decide, limited budget, whatever... so if these companies do want originals from said artists they can contact them, all artists from Infinity are fully credited on the DVD witha photo and linkage to personal websites.

I really really would like that chopper too. damn i hope my title sell enough... i'll get the Magnum P.I one.

Ack the Infinity 2 thread! Personally i don't really expect to make much from the CD myself and Joost did, I didn't do it for the dosh and to be honest we get f*ck all for the amount of work done anyway.
Like all the above said the beauty of doing Infinity from a designers perspective is the work and oppotunities that follow.
Do i give 2 shits what the likes of Sony or Sega do with my design? No.
The infinity series is just another FAD to sweep the corprate design world it will soon die out and maybe then you will be happy.
- FAT_HOM0
Ack indeed
the fact that you didn't earn much for your hard work chris when you should is one of the reasons i habe a problem with this kind of distribution.
Designers should care about how and where their work used.
the infinity series is sadly promoting your style as a FAD and therefor contributing to it's demise, your kinda shooting yourselves in the foot because as you say there will be a time when no-ones interested anymore. Infinity 2 is making that time come sooner rather than later.

capitalism is alive and well!
I wonder if there will ever be a cd/dvd with 50 different kinds of website to stick your logo onto? With all built in stock imagery and clever straplines that can be easily adapted to any company. (© ;)

bloody hell!
Should I have known about this already? I'm gonna use it on my next job. God help you clients.
- FAT_HOM0
AHHHH!
templatemonster = evil pure evil
i so wish i'd not seen that

I love the 3D work more than any other form of graphics, but I can see how this will dilute the significance of it.
Kinda like Police selling pieces of their songs so others can remix them (oh, wait, they are already doing that!!).I would pay a grand for a well printed, limited edition image to hang on my wall. But since anyone can just buy it, it makes it less interesting, to me as a designer. I don't think I'd care as much if they were flattened images, but the fact that you can swap layers and call it your own is a little unsettling.
I just hope they all can stay one step ahead of the game. If you are making some cash off it, that's great.
Keep the updates comin'.

funny you mention music... form the underground sounds that make it to commerce, having done infinity 2 also pushes you to move on to something else, something new... from whatis commerce now back to underground. its how you like to grow.

FAT_HOM: I see where your coming from man, I did DV for a few reasons, the challenge (to see how many of these bad boys i could pump out before shooting myself in the eyes), the oppotunities that follow and also being brutally honest to get my work abit more wide spread.
That will probably* be the last of '3d abstracts' that Dstrukt will produce, fullstop. I might not of got paid millions but i got a shit load of progression and self development/.
- FAT_HOM0
cheers chris, i do understand the inherent advantages that the infinity series provides too. I was playing devil's advocate on this one.
