~cheap saturation weakening the craft~
Brands should have more respect for themselves, delving deep into the bargain bin, ooh a red one that'l do i suppose
- flippers0
you're taking it all to seriously FAT_HOM. If somebody puts their art on Getty1 they are alowing it to be snapped up by anyone, but for what purpose? to spread his/her art? no, to make piles of cash and by helicopters. It's all about the dollars my weird looking friend
- renascent0
im sorry, but i find you very narrowminded on this matter fat_hom...
- FAT_HOM0
mr flipper is right - it must be just about the $'s
- Gorbie0
Enjoy yourself and try to get paid.
What's the problem?
This sorta reminds me of when a prominent movie critic blasts a childrens movie.
- Onyro0
well its all already being used...see this months digit magazine...
- FAT_HOM0
i believe clients being able to select stock artwork instead of commissioning is whats stopping designers/illustrators getting paid respectfully
i don't think i'm being narrow minded at all i just have an opposing view to you joost
- paulrand0
highly skilled work in a design style that, like all original styles, inevitably becomes a design commodity
- renascent0
well you dont know what were getting paid, plus this work leads to more special commisioned work too... it works two ways fat_hom
- Onyro0
think of it this way...our work gets distributed for free in possibly the best protfolio book worldwide to the best advertising agencies..
and how many commissions to you think we get from these..?
i can tell you plenty...:) i gained arround 5 clients last year just because they had seen my work in the infinity series.. I expect more to follow this year...
even if you don't make anything from sales (which we do) its worth doing the work just to get into the book.
- renascent0
yup, what onyro said, my last three clients came thru Infinity
- FAT_HOM0
the $ was only one element of my argument, another being the weakened brand of a client who ends up 'sharing' creative work with others who purchase through the 3rd party stock catalogue instead of direct with the designers. I'm sure Digit mag would know where to look if they wanted that particular style
- renascent0
yes were in the business to make money... a daughter and a fiance to support here, bills to pay at the end of the month... besides that the images can be bought as fullt layered psd's giving the client full flexibility... remember its a staring point and not a finished product theyre buying... it would be beautifull if theyd come directly to us, understand this is also a way of getting directly to them, if youre already in a network of thousands of add agencies, well more power to you then.
- renascent0
anyways, im drifting off here, i had fun doing it, i guess at the end of the day thats what matters.

did not read all replies here, but this is my view: i think stuff like this is great, i am a great supporter of the idea of selling/buying stockmaterial... which can be photography, video-footage, music, illustrations, renderings etc.
It's very handy for a lot of advertising/creative companies who need a solid base for their design, or just something to blend in. A good creative agency would blend it so that it all looks unique and well-designed in the end.
I mean, do you REALLY expect all companies in the world can rely on top-photographers, or highly talented (motion)graphics designers (such as renascent)?? they don't have those people in their staff.
One important thing I'd like to add is:
I really think the ones who deliver this work (the artists) should be paid well for their designs to be used in various ways!! (which is not always the case, unfortunatly..).
- smartK0
I wanted to add that though I don't lik that style personally, the guy who did it obviously has some serious skills
- Onyro0
its the evolution that i enjoy most...but very very hard work...

oh, and please, for crying out loud, stop the whining about artists doing commercial stuff now and then.. i mean, sheesh, they gotta eat as well!!
You don't get rich by doing lectures/presentations/festivals... etc. in this biz.
- FAT_HOM0
so you think it's ok to have 2 pieces of creative that obviously have that same origins - one with a SEGA logo on and one with a SONY logo!?
I'm glad you both are getting commissioned work from the exposure the cd affords you but we're just gonna have to disagree on this issue
- FAT_HOM0
4 cY I wasn't complaing about these guys doing commercial work, view some earlier posts
