In a Time Mag article, David Beckham flirted with the idea of playing soccer for the MLS.
Do you even remotely think this is a possiblity?
- unknown0
I bet that would piss alot of people in England off huh?!
:P
- kpl0
so he wants to come to the us so he could be profoundly ignored?
- jox0
Why would he move *from* the best soccer-playing country in the world to the worst? :P
- unknown0
ha ha, yeah that doesn't make too much sense does it.
:P
- kpl0
tabloids.
- unknown0
oohhh come on jox, we aren't the worst.
:P
- jox0
no, you just had to invent your own version of it, just like baseball (cricket) :P
Hey I've always wanted to know, is your real last name "Deisinger"?
'Cuz if it is, it's pretty frikkin hot, since you're in this business and all.. :)
- bob0
He would definately be ignored, but that kind of sounds like what he wants.
An we (U.S.) are not the worst.

We may not have the best league in the world but certainly do not have the worst. A lot of that has to do with the foreign player rules. If every other league had the same rules, the talent would be a lot more evenly distributed, as opposed to bought by a few teams.
Thanks,

i really couldn't care less.
i wish he'd played for the Antartican Ants... or Sahara United.

Isn't the US Women's team #1?
- unknown0
yeah jox, that actually is my real last name, quite the coincidence.
pronounced Dice-ing-er and I've had people pronouncing it designer forever.
:P

I told you guys, nobody believed me in England
- unknown0
Ha, the crappy US soccer league? Yeah, definately he will go there, only in his 50's, like any good players out there. They play in some spanish, italian, english or german worthy teams and then go to the US for a great retirement plan ;D
- unknown0
Oh yeah, forgot this. Beckham will play in Real Madrid next year. He's contacted them yet, just like it happened with Figo, Zidane and Ronaldo... He's on the way to Madrid. I'm not a fan of Real, never was, but when you see these peeps playing inspired... Damn, they do the best club soccer since Sacchi's glorious Milan. They don't have old Milan's defensive power, but they're equal if not superior as for attacking power goes...

(apr 25 03)That's called capitalism. Your country's the biggest example of it, so don't moan... ;)
- bob0
No one is moaning. I also believe the MLS is below par. But it as only been around for 6 or 7 years unlike the Premiership and the other Euro leagues.
Plus the MLS is just starting to expand out of American Football stadiums, into parks that will allow real football to be played.
But I really would not put it past Beckham to make the jump for a 1 or 2 year contract (after which he will get the heck out of here).
The capitalist system in place in our other major sports it totally ruining them. NY Yankees, LA Lakers and other big market clubs are dominated, merely because they can buy any player they want.
MLS is owned by multiple owners, but the MLS allow holds the contracts to the players and decides transfers. What we need is a relegation system in place in all our sports.

speaking of retiered football stars, wheres that fathead Gazza? He wanted to play in the Australian Leugue (haha) but they said he was too fat.
- ********0
elektro no offense, but your full of it, he can easily be playing in MSL based upon money he would get from advertising alone. Nike has already said that they would pay him 15 to 20 Million US per year to play here and why not if he can live in NY City or Miami or LA. Tell me?
- sexypixel0
because its not compettivie enough for him. Becham is one of the few players with a total and utter love for the game, sure money comes into it but he would be the first to say that the game comes before the money. He would misss the european leugues too much
