They are both not only the two funniest shows now by miles, but two of the funniest shows ever. I wish the Simpsons would end now though. They haven't been funny in two years. However, they have about 10 years of near perfection leading up to that. South Park is near perfection, but it's only in its 5(?) season.
I don't usually sit on a fence, but this one is too hard. Put me down for undecided.
Neither show would use Futurama for toilet paper.

South Park vs Simpsons? South Park wins for me, and I'll explain why.
While in the beginning South Park tried so hard to get its audience with the dick and fart jokes, eventually they saw it running thin and tossed the more political and subtle humor on top, keeping it's old fans who needed the low-brow humor while adding some new ones who wanted to give it a shot but needed something with more substance.
The Simpsons, in its heyday, was an amazingly written show that had subtlety even the best of South Park could never match. Inuuendo jokes, film references, and so on were used flawlessly. Then the writers left and new writers came and the show became blunt as a brick. "Subtle" jokes are now followed by a direct example of the punchline so nobody misses a joke. Jokes aren't funny when explained, and this is no exception. The show gets sloppier and sloppier every year, adding as many guest voices as possible in a vain attempt to eke out just a few more viewers.

Simpsons wins! It's brilliant. There's so much going on in it and the voice actors are brilliant. Same goes for Futurama. Really the voice-acting is a big part of it's strenght. I think the woman who does Bart's voice does Ralph's too and a few others, she's a genius.
I guess South Park is somehow funny if you're a 4 year old and you like the Teletubies. It's shit writing for a start...

i gotta say, when i start thinking i like the simpsons more, i am thinking about the shows before these past three seasons.
i agree with the explanation of jokes. i cant stand watching sitcoms for the same reason.
