Maybe protesting against a war on Iraq actually stopped a war?

Now go ahead and yawn! :)

Agreed. I know how tired everyone is of war threads, but I thought this one was adding something new. Bush got a lot of support for the Iraq war but I think he doesn't trust that support enough to go to another war. And maybe he is taking all the demonstrations into consideration. Or am I just making it easy for myself?

All a politician will worry about is the following question :
can i get away with it?
I'd put that article, if it is true of course, down to political survival instinct.

Seems like a lot of people have been happy to accept the propaganda - hey the statues have come down and so now we have permission to stop thinking about Iraq.
If we don't go to war with Syria it won't be because Bush suddenly cares about what the protesters think – it will be because Syria will acquiesce whatever deal the US administration demands, after seeing what happens to those who stand in the way of US commercial interests.

Also there's talk of bush switching to a 'home' agenda. Apparently his daddy didn't get re-elected because he focused too much on affairs away from home. So we might see the end of george's little foreign policy adventures for a while.

i wonder when GW and blair turn to fix the problems in their own countries. but m' think too that there will be a 'home-shorty' before the elections.

I hate to say it, but I almost hope our economy does nothing. Anything to keep Little Bush from getting reelected. If the economy picks up, he'll take it by a landslide.
The democrats better find someone really fast!! And not Leiberman!!

Shrub doesn't give a flying hoot about some "old-europian" demonstrations. He just doesn't have the money to fight Syria or North Korea. Even the republicans would impeach his ass.

i hope he won't be elected anymore. i am really afraid that he puts more and more oil in the terrorist fire...
and i wonder what hos plans are for rebuid iraq... i have no clue

my boss just called me to tell me one of Leno's jokes from last night..
'Bush made a a surprise announcement today, appologising for mispronouncing Iraq...
turns out, he meant to pronounce it S-y-r-i-aanyhow..thought that was funny...
and you're right...they wont nudge syria...i think they'll just bully through some 'play nice' sanctions and what not...
makes me laugh tho..the whole, you allowed this and that to get through your borders...
jesus...
whose military is watching those borders like a hawk?..
hmmmmm...if anything got through there, it's because the US military didnt' care enough to stop it (beacuse lets face it...a couple of grenade launchers vs a MOAB isn't much of a contest) or because it was politically wise to keep an escape route open to the next place you want to threaten...
how convenient...

i feel so comfortable that 'reforming' the middle east rests in the bush administration's hands

No matter what happens, somebody will find a way
to take it too seriously.i.e. half the reactions here.
