http://www.edirol.com/products/k… all you do is connect it to your computer and control Reason 2.5 with this, it basically just triggers your soft synth. Rockin'!! ;)

you might want to consider fruityloops.
it's midi interfacable, has a number of built in soft synths, exports wav and mp3, is VST instrument compatible....the list goes on... that and it's relatively simple to use.
...and costs $79 as opposed to reason's $400
I wouldn't doubt reason is more sophisticated, but FL does the job, and doesn't break the bank

Fruity Loops sucks about a zillion times more too, no offense man, but FL is limited, unless you are looking to make just digital sounding loops. Then it's ok I guess? ;)

FL isn't that bad actually, it's a step sequencer, same as ReDrum in Reason, which is only one of it's many instruments.

listen to jazx the man knows his shit.

yeah I know my own shit sucks, hee hee ;)

this is what i really wanted initially... but i need the money for other stuff...
yeah, i've heard of fruity loops before... i always thought it was just a sequencer (i think that's the right word) for setting up loops and stuff. i already have acid 2.0 and have never even used it (and not sure i ever will - wasted money)
can fruity loops create 8/16 bit sound (granted i want to do more than that, but i'm just curious).

mitsu, yeah dude, that is standard stuff these days.

Basically, Fruity Loops is a STEP SEQUENCER, it's very similar to what ReBirth was/is? I mean ReBirth sorta' morphed into Reason. I guess they still have it and it ain't bad for making beats. With Fruity Loops Pro you can probably take a .wav file sample and open it up on the sequencer, at least you can with ReDrum in Reason. It's a must for Hip-Hop/Trip-Hop producers. Instant grat!

gotta' be honest with you, unless you are planning on playing live or learning how to record using a synth with other programs such as Cubase, Logic or possible Acid, then you really don't want to mess with that thing. Yes, it's analog and yes I have it, however, for ease of use and simplicity and overall sound, Reason is the way to go. :)

k, thanks for reasoning with me. i'm going listen to reason and go with reason.

hee, hee :) we can be E-mail buddies, it's crazy what you can do with that thing, once you learn the basics you can really fucking tweak it to death, that thing is pure electronica/hip-hop/trip-hop concentrate, just squeeze! When you get a feel for it you can get something called ReCycle 2.0 from same group, you can then create your own .rex/.rx2 files to import into Reason. Ohhh it never ends dude!

the vst soft-synths are the best (the can also function as directX).
These include:
the pro-52 (native instruments)
oddity (an arp odessey rip-off)
the fm7 ( a cool fm synthesis beast)
the lounge lizard (by applied acoustics - a killer acoustic modeler of an electric piano).all of these can be run and sequenced through fruity loops or cubase. (i don't know about reason - i don't use it)
i don't know if you are using macs or pc, but for pc warez, i got some good info. hit me back if you want more.oh yeah, it also depends on what kind of sound card you are using, too.

I agree withyou that Reason is pretty badass.
However, I have been using Fruity Loops more since the new version came out.
Pretty full featured, uses VST etc. I have been through pretty much every sequencer in the last ten years and I can recommend it. 4.0 has really brought it to the level.
I do love Reason though, especially when used with Rewire and Cubase...thats nice.
As far as the "sound" of certain programs go...Reason and Fruity are about the same...its all how you use it.

I just think it's a bit more complicated to use Fruity Loops, even with all these VST plug-ins and it's ability to line out to Cubase. Yep, ReWire is a great little program, enabling total syncopation with Cubase from Reason. I beta-tested 2.5 and it rocks HARD CORE, the vocoder and spider rock that thing solid. At this point in time there ain't much touching Reason 2.5. ;)

hello! anyone ever use an
Access Virus indigo? i'm thinking of getting one.... don't know if it's worth it though...any recommendations?

The Virus hard synths you mean? They are pretty nice, makes some nice sounds for sure. Very sweet analog shit. I think they are Deutsch?
