Maybe I missed it because out of all the news I hear, that doesn't rank very high on my important list. Especially when we have only used a few, far away from the cities.
I apologize for getting drawn into an argument about war on a design thread. But don't expect anything less when you make accusations against my country. I should be smarter than that but it really pisses me off.

i'm sick of my fellow americans treating this war like its a fuckin soccer match and we are on teams here .. these are human lives we are dealing with .. and yet you let the propaganda allow you to believe that these people that are dying are less than human.

"American dominance is not simply military. The U.S. economy is as large as the next three—Japan, Germany and Britain—put together. With 5 percent of the world’s population, this one country accounts for 43 percent of the world’s economic production, 40 percent of its high-technology production and 50 percent of its research and development. If you look at the indicators of future growth, all are favorable for America. It is more dynamic economically, more youthful demographically and more flexible culturally than any other part of the world. It is conceivable that America’s lead, especially over an aging and sclerotic Europe, will actually increase over the next two decades."

If people would really see where we get our oil from you would see that the biggest supplier to the US is Canada. Second on the list is Mexico.
To think we would put all our eggs in one basket is insane. When we do run out of oil - the markets will prevail and our cars will run on water or something else. What will the hippies yell about then?
As far as people being killed by the borrible US. 60,000 Iraqis died a year because on UN sanctions.
Where did the idea come from that America created War, hatred, racism, corporate greed and the like. It's been around people. It always will.
You have to come to grips that humans like this stuff.

I live in the states. In fact I'm one of those so-called "unamerican" protesters...things are getting very bad here, I have friends in jail and more in court. I may end up there too, and for what? For dissenting. It's happening, everywhere in the states. Oregon is even working on a law to allow protesters to be tried as terrorists. The news is out there you just have to look.
And speaking of the news, yes i watch it, but I believe very little of it, When NBC(owned by GE a military contractor) fierd renowned journalist Peter Arnett for telling the TRUTH to Aljezzera that scared me, when the LA Times was caught photoshoping images of the war that scared me even more, independant journalist are NOT allowed into Iraq, and when caught they are held by the military. CNN, NBC, FOX etc...may be delivering the news, but as we all should know we are not getting the whole story and sadly probably wont for a good time to come...
Also, civilians ARE dieing, daily, the new war plan calls for indiscrimant bombing and less care for firing on civilians. To keep track of the casualties check out http://www.iraqbodycount.net/
1984 here we come..

KarmaPolice .. if you read the article you would see that our Oil supply has nothing to do with the motivation claimed in that article. Its about keeping the US as the global currency and preventing the Euro from becoming a more powerful trading bill, thus launching the US Economy in a slow downward spiral.
Please ... read first, then comment.

didnt two reporters who were 'embedded' with the troops get expelled from Iraq for speeking out against the coalition

Karmapolice...though i agree with your to a certain extent. Bombs can only get so big before we really have to sit down collectively and really change the way things are working...otherwise..we're fucked.
sidenote: Iraq has the 2nd largest oil reserve in the world. The US already plans to tap that resource.

I will give you some slack that this very well could be about the dollar as currency. (Yes, I read ost of the article after I posted - Hey...it was quite long) The Dollar is used as currency for about 60%-70% of the worlds trading platforms. Not just oil. And if the European Uniun wants to move against the US and take control - then I saw the US has to do what it has to do. Go ahead bomb a country or two.
There is a good thing about the human race. We keep making more. Really humans have been beating each other over the head since we crawled out of the caves. Why should we stop now. Used to be about a freshly killed elephant, then it was religion, now its about a world trading platform. Whats the difference.
As for the people with delusions of America as a police state...I say go live in a police state for a while. Americans have little to complain about. Our poor have cable tv and eat free Doritos and hotdogs. Yes, shut up and eat snacks. We look for things to make our life interesting. For some that is marching in the street and causing severe havoc on city budgets and commerce in general. But the people who have to go to work to feed there kids and pay for there Honda Accord are "blind to the truth." Give me a break!
You want the middle east to stop fighting. You want peace? Put an Intel plant in Iraq. Or some other widget maker. Start shipping fancy cars over there so they have something to want other than killing Americans. Give them car payments I say. Get them addicted to Pizza Hut and Pepsi. Have them make us things. Thats how we fixed Japan. Look at all the cool shit we get from them.
Relax....let the world be what it is...brutal.

"if the European Uniun wants to move against the US and take control - then I say the US has to do what it has to do. Go ahead bomb a country or two. "
Karma .. you can't possibly be this ignorant. Are you saying that our government is justified in killing a large number of innocent people in order to retain global control of our currency ?
Just because we have been warring since we crawled out of caves does not mean it has to be pattern we are constantly condemned to repeat. Last I checked, human beings are capable of progress and intelligence that allows to evolve into something more.
"Used to be about a freshly killed elephant, then it was religion, now its about a world trading platform. Whats the difference."
The difference is justifiable reasoning you small minded fool. Fighting over a freshly killed elephant is about survival and survival of your family, a world trading platform is not a fair reason to take thousands upon thousands of lives, if it were .. they would not be lying about it and telling the public that this war is about disarmement or Liberation.
"Relax....let the world be what it is...brutal."
Thats an excellent defeatist attitude you have there, but I think unless you get wake the hell up, and realize that you can have a hand in the future of the human race, we are all pretty much set on our path of destruction.

About the police state thing Karma.... I'm not a fool, I know other countries have it worse, as of right now any way.
It's because of the complancency of so many people like you that things will get worse. WE WILL be living in a police state, one far larger and more dangerous than any the world has come to see. We, as American, and global citizens can't stand for this. But then again as long as you have your pizza and porn I'm sure you'll be happy...
