this is just too hilarious. you know, why the fuck do you people care?! do you own ups? do you own stock in ups? if so, i could understand why you have the deep rooted personal hatred for the logo. there is a reason why none of you were approached to design the new ups logo. because none of you could have fucking done it! yes, this logo is painfully mediocre, but none of you know the impact it will or wont have in 2 or 20 years. hell, there may be some 20 year old dipshit sitting in his pajamas in the middle of the night (or day) talking about how the new spinning hologram ups logo of 2023 is retarded and futurebrand will be "spinning in their grave" if they saw it. call the fucking waahhhmbulance. shit changes...for the better or for the worse. if you dont like the logo so much, then make your own fucking worldwide shipping company and create your own god damned logo for it. then we can all sit here and complain that your logo stinks. you people are tripping. and i think its hilarious...

Phil, I like your logo.
and I do think we have the right to express our opinions, cause even though the suits at UPS aren't trying to please designers but consumers, you should appreciate the criticism the rebranding is recieving. we're talking about type and the symbolic changes, these are important issues in brands, but I guess average joe, won't care either way.

when they put a 3d spin that logo, I will trip. like never before.

i am only expressing my criticisms on the criticisms of the rebranding. haha- how's that? plus i'm extremely bored today.
anyway - what would be a truly interesting (and impossible) test would be to get a real corporate logo designer (or "brander") who has never seen either logo and have him or her discuss the pros and cons of both. i mean come on, we have all lived with the old logo for most (if not all) of our lives. of course someone who works in design and/or branding has a viewpoint and probably more keen on the old one, simply because of it's familiarity and comfortability since we've lived with it for so long, regardless of whether it was designed by rand or not. what about the future designers who start their worldwide shipping careers only knowing the new logo? do you think they will live with thatone for the next 40 years and then say "oh shit, why did they change that logo 40 years ago, when they had that old rectangle with a bow! man that shit was dope!" chances are they wouldnt.
the thing is, when you are working on somethign of this hugeness (is that a word?), alot more shit goes into the thing other than having someone play on their computer all day. which is why a corporate "brander" has the job and not joe bob who designs rave flyers all day. i'm sure they went through many rounds of psychological tests and "focus groups" in order to get to the thing they have today. whether thats a good idea or not is not for me to decide. obviously ups did, and good for them. they have the money, use it how you want. but in reality, their "brand" isnt for us stuffy designers, its for the average schmuck. and i garauntee the average schmuck is gonna fucking love the new logo. therefore futurebrand and ups have succeeded intheir goals and the money was well spent.
i just think its silly to be pissed about the new logo. whats the reason? yeah sure we can discuss its pros and cons, but damn....the shit aint gonna change the way we ship packages.
i think it would be cool if the ups guys and gals had to wear like plastic badges, like cop badges, like the new logo...that would be awesome...if they were all shiny and bevelled.

No company should redesign a trademark designed by Paul Rand. It's just disrespectful.
- apt130
oh yeah...i'd also like to join the long list of paul rand name droppers.

when Citibank changed it's logo, I was kinda bummed, because I like the old one and dislike the new one - but I survived. Same with Burger King, Pizza Hut, Verizon, and now UPS. I'm not losing sleep over this and I'm not going to take a militant stance on my preference of logotypes. However, I do see this as a somewhat cultural trend of changing very stable identity systems and point them into the Sea of Mediocrity. Think: marketing people's buzzwords "information revolution "0101010" "information superhighway" "data" (you get it, right? In my opinion, this is essentially putting bellbottomed seams on perfectly nice pair of jeans. Make sense?
- kpl0
you might had survived the burger king logo change, but it doesn't mean everyone has.
:O

what's wrong with some critical dialogue on a design forum?
Do you think it is OK, that the world became a slightly less pretty place today. This is completly inconsequential, considering the world today. But fuck got to talk about something else
- taragee0
wait you mean there's things other than design???!!!!

Hey I like BellBottoms!

- sauerbraten0
yeah, i'd much rather discuss the change in a major worldwide brand, than politics, religion or 2K threads..
and I agree that most peeps will love the logo, but it's unfortunate when good design ultimately gets killed by the safe, corporate solution.
- taragee0
tru - i'd love to see what sketches were left on the "cutting room floor" so to speak...

I don't care if Burger King logo changed, what's the matter with you people? So that means you won't eat a whooper until the logo is a nice one?
Some people in this forum are just hilarious.
- BEEMO0
Jr,
you mean to tell me you don't play "Guess That Font" everytime the intro credits roll at the cinema? Ha ha! Like I said, I won't lose sleep over corporate logo changes, but it still matters to me.
- Jr0
Guess the font? I like design, but I'm not a fanatic.
