i am only expressing my criticisms on the criticisms of the rebranding. haha- how's that? plus i'm extremely bored today.

anyway - what would be a truly interesting (and impossible) test would be to get a real corporate logo designer (or "brander") who has never seen either logo and have him or her discuss the pros and cons of both. i mean come on, we have all lived with the old logo for most (if not all) of our lives. of course someone who works in design and/or branding has a viewpoint and probably more keen on the old one, simply because of it's familiarity and comfortability since we've lived with it for so long, regardless of whether it was designed by rand or not. what about the future designers who start their worldwide shipping careers only knowing the new logo? do you think they will live with thatone for the next 40 years and then say "oh shit, why did they change that logo 40 years ago, when they had that old rectangle with a bow! man that shit was dope!" chances are they wouldnt.

the thing is, when you are working on somethign of this hugeness (is that a word?), alot more shit goes into the thing other than having someone play on their computer all day. which is why a corporate "brander" has the job and not joe bob who designs rave flyers all day. i'm sure they went through many rounds of psychological tests and "focus groups" in order to get to the thing they have today. whether thats a good idea or not is not for me to decide. obviously ups did, and good for them. they have the money, use it how you want. but in reality, their "brand" isnt for us stuffy designers, its for the average schmuck. and i garauntee the average schmuck is gonna fucking love the new logo. therefore futurebrand and ups have succeeded intheir goals and the money was well spent.

i just think its silly to be pissed about the new logo. whats the reason? yeah sure we can discuss its pros and cons, but damn....the shit aint gonna change the way we ship packages.

i think it would be cool if the ups guys and gals had to wear like plastic badges, like cop badges, like the new logo...that would be awesome...if they were all shiny and bevelled.
