anyone ever read the wealth of nations?
http://www.socsci.mcmaster.ca/~e…
its a book that talks about how nations/ empires rise and fall, from Roman empire to British empire, they all fucked up because they got too greedy...
I think the US government would do well to read this book

well, the uk/us brought the threat unto outselves by shafting muslim nations/people to get what we want whilst conning them.

gabezz: only in the most recent of histories. in reality, the feud between eastern europe and the holy land is over a thousand years old.

With a strong global anti-americanism, a tattered US economy, the emergence of a powerfull EU, and radicall terrorism on the rise, do you think this is the beggining of the end of the American empire?
- vespa0
The American empire will dominate for the forseeable future, methinks.
Has anyone read "The New Rulers of the World" by John Pilger?
- vena0
doubtful. very very doubtful.
and it's worth mentioning that the economy is not that bad. america's suffered MUCH worse.
it's also worth mentioning that there's *always* been strong global anti-americanism. especially from the french (and no, that's not an insult to the french, it's blatantly true in the policies of their government and people). the difference being it didn't have a unifying cause to give it a voice.
the EU, imho, is not that powerful beyond the establishment of the euro.

i think america is collapsing, and I can't believe people are buying rations in case of a nuclear attack. surely they would all survive, as their fat would protect them! sorry, i couldn't resist it

"Police have cleared the north terminal of Gatwick Airport and arrested a man under anti-terrorism legislation after the discovery of a live hand grenade"

If your in the UK. On TV last night there was a programme called empires, which talked about the demise of the English Empire, and where the parallels were with America.

I think it was interesting on questiontime last night how they were pointing out that although it is very likely that terrorist reprisals are real, the British public distrust Tony Blair and his spindoctors so much that everyone thinks the army at Heathrow is just more propaganda.
Tony's days are numbered, for sure. And tomorrow's protest will show how many people from all walks of life do not support this war.

completely agree Vespa...
the impression I got from questiontime was that none of the Labour mp's back it either
he's fucked....
god I love democracy
- vespa0
That's the big joke - they are banging on about how one of the main objectives of the war is to export democracy to Iraq, but the war hasn't even been decided on democratically.
- vespa0
Did anyone see that documentary the other night called "Holidays in the Axis of Evil"?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/progr…
Bloody brilliant idea. It was so good to see the Iraqis as people, rather than the faceless "them" that must be maintained to justify war.
