Run down to the local bookstore, get inside somehow, and find a copy of the novel based on Stephen King's tv movie "The Langoliers" so that I could figure out what was happening.

i would sit, relax, and meditate myself into full enlightenment, that which can only be attained through full concentration and body relaxation...
...your senario is the perfect setting for my journey.

lets add a twist:
you wake up one morning, just a normal day or so you think, walk outside to find that everyone has has vashished, no trace of life at all, not a soul.
No explantion of the disapearance can be found. what would you do, what would your strategy be, where would you go?
oh, and by the way, you've just became forever IMMORTAL!

i would respond to a thread on newstoday. or better yet, start one.

Thats a twisted twist. You need to read the book EMPTY WORLD. It is incredibly good. Although its written about a kid of 15 or 16, it doesnt matter what age you are.
People are wiped out by disease, yet SOME remain. But it takes him months to find someone (he moves in to Buck Palace, London, from Cornwall, he drives a Jag up there). Despite never leaving UK, the book is incredible inthrawling. 9.7/10 stuff. Anyone read it?

Vinney - the downside of that plague angle is that the survivors are left in a world where there's a decent chance that all or most of the buildings will have their share of rotting corpses.
What a downer.
The faster the plage took down society, the worse it would be for the survivors - because the collapsing social/public health services wouldn't have had time to move the ill to hospitals/quarantine camps and the dead to crematory pits or landfills before they were snuffed out themselves.
If I were a one in a million survivor of a global pandemic, I would probably steer clear of urban areas for a good long time. The stench alone, I would think, would be enough to keep me away.

Countryside will smell of rotting horses though!
Fair point however.
