This is the thing. I'm tired of being caught up in the whole commercial side of design. Feel like knocking the stakes up a level, and trying to make some art. Been making photographs and installations for the last 10 years, got into computers about 3 years ago, adn really want to get down to some nitty gritty, even if its only theorisng.
Haven't seen any art on the web yet. Not proper art anyway. Seen plenty trying to pass itself off as art, but . . . .Does anyone know what I'm talking about, or am I just rambling like a fool?

most paintings can be used to cover holes in the wall.
=P

get real. art is all over the web.
- unknown0
that's a pretty narrow minded definition of "Art"!
:P

I'm not talking about putting photographs or paintings on a site. Thats a pictorial representation of art, not art.
For example, if you go to the MOMA gallery website, do you have art on your screen, or a representation of art on your screen.
Also, it's about as broad a definition of art as you'll get in 5 mins. I didn't specify media, subject, influence, aesthetics, all I did was mention a few basic tenets that universally recognised art has and does address.
If you think you know better, please, take me on. I'm here all week.
Except for the next few hours. I'm going home.
Yours in hope

chill bro, cut back on the caffeine!
I just think art is everywhere and can't be defined so narrowly.
Besides it's all subjective anyways.
:P

Don't think you get my point, mate. I'm talking about art that exists only on the web, in the same way that a hirst sculpture exists only in it's space.
Fuck it, forget I asked
- unknown0
ok ok, don't get mad, I obviously didn't get your point, sorry.
:P

smash your screen with a sledgehammer..
viola!!!
Art on your desktop.
I guess i'm just someone who sees the artistry in fine plumbing, and um.. lawn maintanance.
Maybe you should, instead of being here all week, go you and meet some people.. get into the art of conversation. Realize the art is the people, and not the object or visual.

Fairly subjective my friend... I feel like i've seen some decent art in there. I also think that you suck but that is also fairly subjective.

Wonder if Bull ever made it into art.

Is it not a form of expression, does it matter how you look at it as long as it gets the idea across?

I know what you mean @bull. This isn't 'art' but I do some design work with community groups on the side. I Highly recommend it, very rewarding, has a load of restrictions which bring up some nice challenges and you get the opportunity to test out ideas that wouldn't otherwise be commercial. The most enjoyable bit for me is the fact you can be very strategic about how you execute ideas - provided you're friendly enough with the people your working with. That and your doing some good in your town/city etc...
- i don't think bull is going to respond.. look at the date of this thread.SteveJobs
