My work shipped me a 16” MacBook Pro M1 MAX. Lol I would have preferred a 13” or 14” but nobody asked me.

Anyway, this thing is huge, heavy, boxy, and kind of absurd. Without tapered edges it’s so clunky looking and feeling. It has giant rubber feet. Looks ridiculous. The notch doesn’t bother me and the UI around it is interesting.

This may be impressive tech but it feels like a step back in industrial design. It reminds me of the design of MacBook from 2006 but with a cheap plastic keyboard.

    • it is ugly AF, getting mine on Monday (ordered 12 weeks ago ffs) but went to the apple store to see one in the flesh at the weekend and was appalledkingsteven
    • glad i did, would have been such a disappointment unboxing. 64gb/ 4TB tho so i'll forgive it i'm surekingsteven
    • They keyboard is annoying. Plus now my speakers make a scratching noise every so often.Chimp

    • Why get a Laptop at all?section_014
    • If it has great design, people bitch about performance. If it has great performance, people bitch about design. Round and round.FNP14
    • “Appalled” is right!nb
    • will get a mini when they come out. laptops = bad ergonomics and no point when you WFH.shapesalad
    • Looks boxy I guess, but the actual usability and ergonomics are an improvement IMO.yuekit
    • Also find it funny complaining about the size...wasn't the main criticism prior to this model that Apple was obsessed with making their machines as thin asyuekit
    • possible at expense of everything else?yuekit
    • I hated mine when I opened the box, now I love it.aliastime
    • I think Ivy was selling the art of the impossible with his thinness in pro notebooks. The fans are almost always on on my company's 2018 16".aliastime
    • Weird. I mostly see positive reviews on this hardware rev.evilpeacock
    • Every job I’ve had supplies a laptop so you can work from wherever and bring it to meetings.nb
    • @chimp "speakers make a scratching noise every so often." also on MBP 16" 2019
      It's a well known issue https://www.youtube.…

    • My 16" is heavy and gets so hot it really isn't portable, I have a 13" Air that I use for portability and use the 16" as a desktop.spot13
    • I wish my work would ship me a new laptop. Currently on a 2016 15" MBP with a wonky B key bbbbstoplying
    • also waiting on the minicannonball1978
    • I absolutly love my 14" m1 pro!
Perfect size. ports HDR screen is really good. My older laptop now feels like a netbook.
      err
    • Everyone is slamming the casing on these new models, but I still think it's pretty good. It's a freakin' tool. My goal is to avoid spending time with it...nocomply
    • I didn't buy my new Macbook Pro because I wanted to jack off to its industrial design. I just want it to run smoothly with 100 browser tabs open.nocomply
    • I run 112 tabs open on 8GB so...grafician
    • @stoplying You can get a free top case replacement under their program: https://apple.co/3L1…ArmandoEstrada
    • Also the big improvement in battery life is a great thing for portability...most of the time I no longer bring the charger when working remotely.yuekit
    • Personally I don't find the 16" Macbook Pro at all heavy or clunky but I've been buying the biggest model for years...seems like many prefer 14" model.yuekit
    • first world whining... my new laptop is badass but doesn't fit my wardrobe... the absurdity!! <3PonyBoy
    • You’re whining about the whining!nb
    • that's why the internet was inverted. to whine about apple.inteliboy
    • got them for free = 'don't like the design'. haven't seen one IRL = 'why whine about the design?'. bought one = 'love it'kingsteven
