    consciousness:
the state of being awake and aware of one's surroundings.

but don't get technical - this word is literally for interpretation. i recently learned that apparently being conscious could be as simple/silly as just being aware that you have things around you (surroundings).

i always thought it meant like a 'higher level of thought' or a 'higher frequency' associated with 'compassion' and 'tolerance' thus resulting in 'balance'- but it's not. it literally means nothing at all - to be aware of your surroundings doesn't mean anything - you could still be aware of your surrounding yet still not give a fuck about these particular surroundings

'consciousness' in no way implies a moral relationship with your surroundings - it just means you're 'aware' of your surroundings.

    change my mind.

    • good observation. what about when you insert "higher" in front of it? does that change anything? also not interested in changing you mind btw. lolsea_sea
    • i think your definition is closer to sensory stimulation. For instance an automatic door is (in your definition) conscious of its environment. I think most...Morning_star
    • ...people would link 'consciousness' with sensory stimulation directly interpreted by a 'mind' capable of abstract interpretation.Morning_star
    • capt wow. duh. the simple idea of morality has little to do with experiencedeathboy
    • morality is a construct in life. Life pure and unobstructed is a great. however cant exist so puredeathboy
    • the 'higher level of thought' you mentioned is there. through practice you can reach consciousness, a place that belongs to all creation.uan
    • when you get there, 'compassion' and 'tolerance' are a natural consequence.uan
    • there is no such thing as your consciousness and my consciousness, there is only 1 consciousness for all.uan
    • uan, are you familiar with Rupert Sheldrake?Morning_star
    • no, i'll check him out.uan
    • If a plant can sense the sunlight, is it "aware" of its surroundings? What about a cell that can sense nutrients or a phosphor? Conscious? Totally debatable.monospaced
    • To me, consciousness is one step further. It's not only being aware of the surroundings, but being able to comprehend them and one's place in them specifically.monospaced
    • why change your mind? you can read. you seem to have a grasp on the definition.imbecile
    • my friend said to me today that consciousness was literally the collective intelligence (memory) of everything we've learned on earth up to this point. love itbliznutty
    • consciousness is an intelligence which is beyond memory. it is not functioning from what you know, it is functioning as an explorative mechanism.uan
    • got that from https://youtu.be/Bvg…uan
