Project cars anyone? I remember someone took someone else's Suzuki, a few others tend to older makes of some nicer cars I believe. Anyone take on a project car? Take it apart, repair it, reassemble it? Looking at taking one on for next year. Any words of experience to share?

    • I've done this a few times in the past with friends rebuilding old cars. If you don't have the pressure of a timeline, its a great time to bro out.DRIFTMONKEY
    • I have enough work to keep my Multipla running. But a friend of mine is restoring an Alfa SZ, such a beautyOBBTKN
    • I had the Samurai. I have had a hell of a time getting the paperwork settled with the previous owner. Typo on his name on the title, going through notaries..garbage
    • ..to get the forms straightened out. He's really dragging his feet, and the rainy season has started so that project is on hold.garbage
    • It's just sitting in front of my apartment and I'm hoping that it doesn't get towed. Project cars are great though, you learn a lot through the frustration.garbage
    • OBBTKN, your first comment nails my situation on the head. The same friends have helped me with motorcycles before, so I'm thinking I should do it.imbecile
    • Oops, my comment was directed at driftmonkey :)imbecile
    • Taking shit apart is fun. Take pics along the way. It'll make it easier to piece back together.DRIFTMONKEY

    • Thanks. My advice would be Set a realistic goal for yourself. Project cars are money pits. Especially if you're not getting your hands dirtyGM278
    • and doing it yourself. Have a budget set aside for it. You dont want to go into the red NOR do you want to be stuck trying to sell some half finished projectGM278
    • should you give up on it...of which you'll NEVER see the money you sank into it. You need to commit to the passion project or don't even start it.GM278
    • My 51 required a whole second shell to make one solid body because the original was in sad shape and that was before doing any of the fun custom stuff.GM278
    • ended up buying a 51 convertible chassis (stronger - has the x-member in it) and built up the whole car off that. Like I said - money pit. :PGM278
    • i've done a couple motorcycles, a jeep when i was younger. i understand budget and time will both creep away. our goal is to wrench as much as possible.imbecile
    • the plan is to strip, repair, rebuild, then reassemble. paying people for specialty parts or labor we can't do along the way.imbecile
    • BMW e30 325i, like 12 years ago. quick fun car but looked like ass and we wrecked it. Worth a small fortune now. Back then the rims were most valuable on it.mekk
