Why do I get so into things?
Started drinking coffee last year casually. Started with a pour over thing, shitty grinder, ok beans. Now I have an aeropress, a better pour over, all kinds of carafes, a scale, gooseneck kettle, and just this morning ordered a $100+ hand grinder from the UK. Also have a monthly subscription to a fancy bean service. It takes like 20 minutes in the morning to make a cup of coffee. And then after all the time spent on it if something tastes slightly off I get pissed. Now I'm sitting here drinking coffee sans milk/sugar looking for some fancy taste thinking to myself... do I even really like this shit?
- I've been chewing caffeine gum. Skip the drinking and tasting part.pango
- ^yeah I used to just take a caffeine pill. was probably better for my teeth also.fourth
- Just add some milk and sugar. It's delicious and eff anyone who judges. Also getting pissed is not zen. Try to be zen.mandomafioso
- If needles not to much of a hassle.... Only if....pango
- I have an aeropress but I only use it while camping. Hate em. You're on a slippery slope, Red Bull and instant coffee are the only things that can save you.garbage
- Do everything in moderation.robotron3k
- I'm a total obsessive too but never got coffee. I'm happy with an instant with milk and sugar.set
- Used to live with someone who made 'proper' decent coffee all the time and I thought it tasted like shitset
- I remember the first and only time I ordered a machiatto just assuming I'd get a coffee. Little did I know it'd be the coffee equivalent of a shot of sambuca.set
- I wish I got it but I just don'tset
- isn't the whole point in an aeropress that you can make it and clean up in 30 seconds? love coffee but any longer wouldn't be worth it.kingsteven
- no need to grind your own beans ... you can have them ground at any shop that sells themmonospaced
- this is a great post I can relate to.fadein11
- what was the grinder you bought from the UK, if I may ask?detritus
- aeropress and pour over can be done quickly. but to be done 'right' you need to do a lot of steps, grind beans fresh, proper ratio, water temp, etcfourth
- the grinder is an aergrind. apparently a consistent grinder makes a huge difference. similar to cooking you need to chop your ingredients equally to cook evenlyfourth
- it starts with coffee, then..

- Coffee is the latest thing to have been gentrified. Now it's full of cunts taking about it if it were wine.Chimp
- I'm happy with my bog-standard French press. If I need something espresso-based, I'll go to a café. Anything else is just hipster wanking.Continuity
- ^ areopress is great though. i can make a great coffee and clean up in 30 seconds. add 19 minutes of prep and i'd be unrealistically critical of the result too.kingsteven
- ok so today I realized the stovetop kettle takes 10 minutes to reach a boil. sigh. ill never be contentfourth
- I gotta say, I'm impressed with the double espressos my partner's wee Bialetti moka pot makes. A lot better than I imagined they'd be.detritus
- 20mins??? ffs you're mad. boil kettle, grind coffee (use electric), put grounds into a jug, add water. leave for a couple of mins, stir, done. 6 mins tops.hans_glib
- A combination of boredom, availability and comfort mixed with a little bit of ego probably.. (Not meant as an insult)mekk
