It's actually a lot more than a team to me...it's been a bonding of fathers and sons for the past 3 generations in my family. My grandfather died in Fenway park...my father spent his youth in the left field bleachers and passed away in 2000...he never witnessed a championship but remained a die hard fan. Most of our bonding was done either in that cathedral of baseball or out on the diamond at the neighborhood park. Baseball at its core is still about a lot more than million dollar atheletes...it teaches loyalty, perseverance, dedication and hope.

The father - son tradition continued as I spent the last week watching the Sox with my young son and it was magic. Sports is full ugliness and business....but at its best it can be transcendent.

So I'm going to be happy....if that makes me a caveman in your eyes...so be it....but maybe you just don't get it.
