When I left Venezuela in 2003 you could buy 1 USD with 1300 bolivares.
Today using the parallel rate (black market) you need 88000 bolivares to buy 1 fucking dollar.
Given the amount of dollars that the nation has received these past years with the oil at over 100 dollars the barrel it's inconceivable that the economy is in the state of wreck it currently is.
Minimum monthly wage right now using the parallel dollar rate is 42 fucking dollars.

Incredible how police shoot over unarmed people...
- The situation in Ukraine is completely different.oey
- in what respect are they different?hotroddy
- in Ukraine they are shooting each other. both sides have guns. and the motivation is the hatred for russia.oey
- in Venezuela you see police shooting at unarmed students. it's a revolt against their land's authority.oey
- i know this is short. sorry. we could go on. but honestly I'm too tired right now.it's 6am and I'm still working between this.oey
- both situations are fucked up. pretty fucking heavy. Venezuela is not a war zone like it's written in 19F.oey

- FYI, these students are just ordinary youngsters, fed up of beign ignored, underesrimated and lied by their government. This is the way the authorities try to shut them up.maquito
- This is the truth ablut the mechanism used by this government to shut them up and move slong with corruption....maquito
- Not to say that the country is absolutely under control of the media and of what we get to know and believe.maquito

The bottom line is that Venezuela has been turned into a new Cuba. There is now food rationing and the people cannot get nutrients. At times waiting an entire day just for a bottle of milk and a loaf of bread. There is starvation because the communist loser has implemented food rationing on the people. The elections were rigged. People were thrown out of opposition polling places, at times beat up and murdered by the infiltrator Cuban military. They infiltrate opposition marches to murder people then blame it was the opposition. Fidel Castro is the one who is running Venezuela but people are getting tired of communist oppression. Enough.

I'm not sure what you are looking for. You already nicely summarized the situation in your 2nd post - it's the same old story of ruthless capitalism v. good-hearted but a bit naive socialism. All mixed will all too well known human characteristics such as greed and opportunism. We've seen this scenario many times before. So again, what new knowledge can you gain from it????

Nothing clear yet. Supposedly this was planned for later but had to do it earlier due to part of the military bailing out.

@hotroddy it seems to be around oil from beginning to end... when was it not?
- It's always been about oil. But the Chavistas have ruined the oil production and have diverted oil revenue away from the populationhotroddy
- like the oil for food program they have with Uruguay. Since they ruined all national production of food that existed in venezuelahotroddy
- the US is the only country that pays full price for Venezuelan oil. And Maduro is now FUCKED!hotroddy
- Chavistas made and stole billions with the commissions they made on food contracts with Mexico, Panama and other countries.hotroddy

The government likes to keep that twilight zone dollar of 6.30 around so they can brag that venezuelans have the highest salary of South America, when it's bullshit. No one can buy dollars at that rate.
Minimum wage is currently 5622 BsF, if you divide that by the bullshit 6.30 dollar that would be 892 USD.
BUT, if you convert it to the real world, using the black market rate, the "highest salary in south America turns out to be 30 fucking dollars.
That's the current state of affairs.
