Hey Bennn and Krassy, we get it, you don't know how to be a part of this conversation.

Some of you need to grow a spine and start standing up for what's right.

Quick example — Sted posted over 1,000 words in the "blog" thread about having to fire 3 employees for sexual harassment. Sted even said he heard the "really unpleasant" comments detailing "asses slapped/fucked, tits size/banged, blowjobs" which he found unacceptable at the time.

But Sted didn't do anything about it because he thought "that it's better to shut the fuck up, listen, and keep my opinion for myself. Otherwise if I don't, I will find myself to be truly an outsider and lose touch with my male colleagues. My business partner comes from a different corporate culture where people are accepting or turning a blind eye above these things"

Now he's dealing with lawsuits, investor blowback, potentially monitoring all his employees and keeping video records of everyone's activities.

You really still fail to see how your behavior is a problem?

And the SAME PEOPLE that are acting like horny, bitter little boys in this thread are the same ones that could clearly see SOMEONE ELSE'S behavior and had no issue calling it unacceptable.

Why not apply these same principles to yourselves?

This modern influencer / Instagram world is so weird.

Remember when only losers went in chat rooms and went on online dating sites?

Now it’s business for everyone to take photos of themselves and use hashtags so strangers find your photos and “like” them and become fans.

Thank you, Fate. You summed up the bullshit brilliantly.

Want to criticize Walsh's work? Go nuts. Being upset that she took over the agency, or that she only got it because she slept with Sagmeister is out of line, and should be called out.

Roast Walsh all you want (I don't care for much of their work), as imbecile said, QBN has ridiculed male designers for a long time. But male designers weren't ridiculed for being male, unlike Walsh. That's some red pill, incel-like fuckery.

Some of you are trying too hard to be edgy. Fuck off with that shit.

    • Only idiots would see our criticism as women-hating incel BS. It's easy to drift into identity politics when you disagree with somebody.NBQ00

For decades we've roasted, flamed, harassed, and ridiculed male designers and maybe a few female designers alike, but mostly male.

The crowd here has always appreciated its own hive mind aesthetic. (Which I have personally enjoyed.) Clean, unintrusive, and polished.

We were not nice to Sagmeister & Walsh simply because. Most of it sucked, some of it not. Work worth appreciating was appreciated.

Now for some reason we can't act like ourselves because a woman has branched off in 2019? QBN will fall prey to political correctness? Fuck that. The work and presentation is trash.

We can shit on male designers for years for a myriad of reasons, but we can't shit on a woman whose work is not good because equality? That's some new world order equality.

Some individuals have roasted the community because of one or two member's opinions. Get over yourselves, both sides.

The shit looks trash, the presentation is trash. It's all rushed with no purpose. I'd say that if a guy made it too.

And yes, messiah complex is real with a few of you.

    • Amen, brother.NBQ00

Personally I'm glad you did, i_monk.

It's funny, there's this real sense that some of you feel like she's undeserving of where she is today, as if she stole something from Stefan.

Your only rationale is that she's a woman and uses her image to get where she is. There's been literally zero consideration for her success outside of that lane and that any legitimate success is due solely to Sagmeister's legacy, some of you even going so far as to act like you have some insider knowledge into the situation.

It's kinda sad to see it, though it makes sense who the bs is coming from. Fuck it, I miss newstoday.

    Deathboy, exactly.

Anyone that owns their own studio or agency knows they have to be their own best salesperson. Especially if your name is on the door.

Their is no humility or being humble. Their is no “letting the work speak for itself” because clients often can’t differentiate.

A client wants a relationship and to trust that they chose the right firm. The V.P. of Sales or the CMO wants to convince the CEO and CFO that they made the right decision hiring &Walsh and to trust them. Partially that trust is built from the logical side (ROI, KPIs, SOQs, responding to RFPs, pricing) but it’s also largely emotional.

Every good salesperson knows that. Many of you don’t, because you’ve never been in that position and haven’t had that responsibility to work at that level.

    • i can respect a great used car salesmen. it doesn't mean I buy what they're selling. but don't underestimate people with humility or humbleness non trenddeathboy

    • maybe im old and disregard todays "metrics" and hotness. one thing i know is fundamentals will outlast trendsdeathboy
    • If lack of funds is the cause then it would be rather expensive to do such an extensive rebrand and pay rent in NY as well as get all the 20+ employees over.NBQ00

im just waiting for the chaturbate brand partnership sold as high brand art. the shock and awe repainting narratives while triggering base biology for sale. but i doubt it. the case study stuff of the brand feels derivative of past work successes. cant say i know her own work vs others and taking credit for it.

but has nothing to do with gender. although if it did the female has the leverage there. basic biology.

i think her true talent is in the hustle. faking it so ppl think you made it art. i might not agree with that area of service, but i will say she is good at it. her talent would probably be doing those perfume ads that make no fuckin sense but look "artistic". i also cant hep but think it separated due to lack of funds.for all the hype and naked bits where are the clients and funds. I did like a levi billboard but i think that may be the only commercial piece i have ever seen.Even before i can only think of self promo work of sag-tits.

she does what she needs to do. i might not like the work but recognize (not respect) her talent in the game. Although I think part of the game shes playing turnover is super fast these days and even this will be forgotten in a month. She cant keep up with the hype while trying to provide a service.

  • fate10

monNom and you’re right, it’s not even that new of an idea.

Male business leaders, athletes, artists have talked themselves up and done wild self promotion for decades.

A woman does it and some of you lose your fucking minds and sense of perspective.

I think some of you also hate the fact that you don’t know how to play the game, you don’t know how to self promote. Or worse, you’re not willing and too scared to go out on a limb and make a name for yourself.

Feel free to call her work boring, criticize what she’s creating, have at it. In this same thread I called her early work “art school schlock” many years ago.

But get the fuck out of here commenting on her face, tits, cooch, sex life, calling her a narcissist, saying she didn’t earn it, and generally being jealous littler toads. Some of you sound pathetic.

I'm going to play devil's advocate and say that she's probably on to something, the way the industry is moving.

"Influencers" really do seem to be the hot ticket for brands these days. I was just at an event where 2000+ people paid a not small admission to meet a pretty niche youtube personality. I don't GET it. But they're trading money to be in this person's club IRL. It's a phenomenon for certain, even if it doesn't make sense to me. This person has a team of ~30 behind them just to produce enough content to feed the beast. In fact most youtubers of note have multiple people working for them. Basically a design studio to handle their content production.

So, if she's trying to become the "design influencer" so that brands will come to work with her for her audience, rather than just her design talents, then all this imagery can basically act like clickbaity thumbnails, which follow a pretty predictable format: show the star in every post. Bright colours to grab attention. Emotive facial expressions. When all else fails: mild nudity.

Warhol had the whole celebrity to sell art thing worked out. Maybe this is just the next iteration of that strategy. And maybe it seems a bit clumsy as a stodgy ad agency pitch, but from the perspective of a media personality, I'm not sure if there's a whole lot of competition to be the loud proud and truly outrageous voice of design for the female millenial set.

Kudos to her for thinking outside the box.

    • It's a great business model. If they experience a bit of a downturn, she can just flash her cooch and voila...BusterBoy

This is a discussion forum/ site. Why aren't we allowed to give our opinion? Do we all have to be ass kissers?

No I'm not bitter, nor jealous nor a woman hater. I actually love to see women be successful and even more so than men in any industry.

But usually I don't give a fuck about genders. It's about the person.

What bothers me about Jessica Walsh is not only her misleading claims that she founded the agency all by herself (she inherited it mostly via a legendary designer that she got associated with and where all her fame started from) but also that she uses her looks and very self-absorbed, narcissistic self-promo. If she's successful with it so be it. But we can still criticise her antics.

There are far more talented women out there that rarely get talked about but the loudest people get the spotlight.
