Guys, I have a meeting with a potential client in 10 days, he asked me to take along a portfolio so we can go over my projects. I use to take a physical portfolio 5 years ago now I usually use an ipad.
Do you guys have physical portfolios? if yes? share some tips on finishes and paper types.
Thanks

Anything except putting it in one of those expensive metal cases. Anything. It can be a saddlestitched laser print booklet as long as the work is presented really well. I feel that a hard bound book (now reasonably priced with services like blurb) is impressive and a nice way to hold a portfolio of work. Just avoid plastic sleeves and coated paper, in my opinion. Don't make it too big either (size of paper). Good luck.

did he say specifically "physical portfolio"?
I'de just use the iPad, I used to do a printed portfolio in the past, but now I use the iPad too, easier.

ipad too, saves against them stealing ideas too

I always think it's better to show actual material. As how it's printed and other technical decisions you made are as important as the look of the work you've done.
- I love this as well. A luxury, though.monospaced
- why? collect your samples and put them in one of those metal case things. easy!
sothere - I always do this too, but a couple times ive gotten a weird response for itfresnobob

I've never used anything but a physical portfolio. I use a leather bound portfolio case I've had last 16 years. got it here at house of portfolio.

Say "I don't have a physical portfolio. We will go over it on my iPad." Logic FTW

Is this potential client web or print focused?
Play to your personal strengths but also cater to the clients needs...

Personally, I still like the printed portfolio. Big but not too big. I use to show print outs of multiple screen shots of web work and it was fine. In the end what really matters is quality of work and talking through the process of your work.
I've used an ipad to show work before and while I was talking through the work, I felt that the ipad was too small. There was a lot of crowding around the device which I felt was a bit awkward.
Anyway, my 2 cents...

The one thing that I hate about bringing my printed port are assholes that know the time you put into it and handle it like shit on purpose. I always have to straighten someone out for handling my work like an asshole.
I usually bring my printed port to those I really feel would appreciate it, most hacks and print shops I just brought my laptop and a binder with photos of printed design work.
ipad is a great way to show work. Id use it for hack work but not for a design agency I really wanted to work for.

those projectors are so low in power/ lumens that you won't be able to show it at an office setting, even if they turned of the lights, because chances are they still have windows and you are there during the day.
If, however.. your next job is at a bar, on a basement with no windows and the interview is at night, then you are good. But why would you even want to take a projector with you if you are interviewing to be a bar tender? are you nuts?
