Damn man. Congrats. That's a really big deal. Can't imagine being able to do that in 4 months. You must've kicked your own ass big time.
I've been trying to lose 30 lbs for over 5 years and am having the hardest dang time. Down to 190 lbs from 212lbs but haven't been able to lose anymore. I was lifting for a few years everyday because I f-in hate cardio but then gained a lot of muscle (*I don't want to have a lot of muscle but just be thin and really defined). Then I switched to doing cardio everyday and that got me down to 200lbs. Then I couldn't get it down more. I've since changed my diet and have lost an additional 10lbs but can't get down anymore, especially with a wife who likes to cook tasty things every other day. I think I need to be more like a friend of mine who just eats boring shit and veggies all day long.
What's your diet like?

My metabolism is fast (runs in the family). It really is all about the running. I got into the Nike Plus program and that was so helpful. Plus, I try to keep my Calories per day at 1200. oh yeah the crack cocaine really helped out. *joke

Dude congrats! I stopped smoking cigs, drinking and bud Dec 2010, and I gained 30lbs! I told myself it was fine just because I had quit everything else but now I can't lose it and I crave nasty food.
I am thinking of doing something drastic, I've been looking a the Paleo Diet and Cross-Fit. I need to cut the sugar!! As soon as I'm done with finals tomorrow it's on.

Congrats dude! I also need to lose weight but it is so fucking hard...

That's splendid, sir - well done. I need to lose more than that, but it's so frickin hard I've all but given up. I've tried the dukan diet - couldn't afford the protein-only food and it drove me crazy and miserable, and my body is kinetically absolutely unsuited to running. I literally can't run 200 yards without my bones feeling like they're falling apart and I can't breathe. I'm pretty much fucked at this point. Any helpful ideas ? Oh and due to my parental schedule I can't get to any gym and do my job. I have maybe 30 minutes a day when I can be out of the house.

@mikotondria3: For starters: drink lots of water. Eight 8oz glasses a day. It'll help you feel full.
You'd be surprised how hard it is to drink that much water every day.

congrats! 60 lbs is no joke... well done. not that i'm a trainer or anything, but my unsolicited advice would be to start a weight lifting routine now (while keeping cardio at least 3x a week). given that you lost about 4 lbs a week, that means that you also lost some muscle (unless you were very overweight).

I'm not too suited to running due to an injury from breaking my ankle years ago, but I do find an excercise bike can be good....

60lbs. is awesome, good work. :) I lost a handful suddenly last year & have had really no trouble keeping it off. I take better care of myself now than I ever have & feel great physically.
Made small, consistant changes here & there to my choices in food & how I spend my free time. I do something active every day & continue to snack a lot but on delicious healthy things (raisins, nuts, hummus, cheese instead of cookies). Basically created a new lifestyle for myself, slowly, and maintenance has been pretty comfortable.
- I should add that I pretty much only drink water & eat several small meals a day.Iifeinvector
- Essentially, you eat like the French do, and stay active like most Euros do... hence their weight.panacea
- BTW, good for you and nice portfolio of illy.panacea

This thread is inspiring me to get back to the gym. It's been over ten years, and for the most of that I was lucky enough to live in places where just living kept the weight off. For example, San Francisco without a car leaves you walking/biking up and down massive hills and climbing endless staircases. Now that I'm in New York and have a desk job I've gained so much weight and feel fat, even though my friends say I'm not. It's just that I'm really soft and am simply out of shape.
I need to find a way of working out that doesn't feel like, well, working out. I used to enjoy racquetball matches for that reason. I'm also just intimidated by gyms here where the beautiful people run side-by-side like a scene from Gattaca. Not my thing.
- I have never been in a gym in my life! I just got sick of working all the time and feeling like shit. So I gave it a shot.rson
- that's why this thread is so inspiring.monospaced
- NY Roadrunners! Just do a bunch of the 4 mile runs in the park. It's really nice, and motivating.stoplying
- 4 miles!? Ugh, my lungs would collapse after 1/4 mile. I'd have to work up to that.monospaced
- Trust me...if I can do it. Anyone can!stoplying

Lost 50lbs over the course of 8-10 months a couple years ago, and have mostly kept it off. I wouldn't complain about losing another 20 or so. What did it for me was martial arts - I started taking Aikido, and happened to join a dojo that was a very hard workout. Between that and cutting out soda (and cutting out most of the crap food), I've been doing pretty good.
Mikotondria - Consider starting a couch to 5k-style program, and maybe making sure you're not running incorrectly. Even if you only run 200 yards at a time at first, constant and consistent intervals will eventually get longer, and eventually become longer distances.
- aha, yes, yes, I've cheered up a bit and downloaded this. Just waiting to buy some shoes I can use.mikotondria3

What about drinking alcohol? How do you handle that?
And good for you man....Next time you go to the gym, pick up 60lbs and imagine you used to lug that around. Well done.
