    • Nice job. Love that hollow sounding melody that kicks in.Ianbolton
    • What've you produced it in?Ianbolton
    • thx. I made it in live. At first it was just the bass and beat but then I added the melody and realized I had a complete track so I built around it.lodef

Ready to pull the trigger on a Behringer Odyssey for funky basses.
As far as I can tell it's the best sounding option, and visually I love it as an object though I'm not sure how comfortable I'll be with sliders vs knobs.

The 2 obvious alternatives I was considering were :

    - Bass Station 2 mostly (presets, slightly cheaper, possibly more versatile, a third of the Odyssey's weight)

    - Poly D (minimoog on a budget)

Curious to hear about any experience you guys might have with these

    • The Moog Minitaur would be another option in that price range. Definitely can get into funk territory.mort_
    • The Minitaur does sound perfect, maybe even more so than the Odyssey, but i need keys on this one (long story)spl33nidoru
    • You might find a used Moog Grandmother for not too much more.mort_
    • Behringer - shitty company using cheap components and their gear has a poor resale value.mort_
    • Korg Odyssey is another great option. Scaled down a bit - saves space.
Has keys. Built well and sounds amazing
      futurefood
    • Thanks mort_, further research seems to point to detuning issues with the Behringer... sucks.spl33nidoru
    • Thanks future, I remember these going for more $ but maybe that's not the case anymore, will check!spl33nidoru
    • The regular Model D would be better for basses, imo. You don't need the extra voices. Check out the Pro-1 too.section_014
    • ^ keyboard is a requirementmort_
    • Think I'm going with the Bass Station for full keys + presets, to which I might add a Minitaur later on. Thanks for the input guys!spl33nidoru
    • not be a gear snob but behringer can go fuck themselves. apart from their shitty quality control, their whole approach to the industry is parasitic and I justautoflavour
    • can't justify supporting them. Moog Minitaur is an amazing machine, better yet the sub37autoflavour

gah! looks like Wifey might be out of a job soon ..
looks like my modular is about to be offered to the gods further.
    do no want!

    • Oh no! Hope she finds something soon.mort_
    • Argh, sounds like a right nightmareIanbolton
    • Time for a minimal setup... if you want to eat.shapesalad
    • One thing I've been doing with modules and synth spending is reserving my money for stuff that can't be done as well in Ableton.mort_
    • So nice filters and analog VCOs etc as modules but things like midi arpeggiators / chord functions etc in Ableton / Max for live devices.mort_
    • Expert Sleepers ES-9 module enables a hybrid setup like that.mort_
    • ^^ same here. I got rid of all my sequencing stuff ages ago. It's basically all VCO's, Filters, Envelopes, and VCA's. I use a first batch ES-3.section_014
    • every time i scroll past this post i think Wifey is a UK grime producer and you have a module thats going to put him out of a job...kingsteven
    • and then read it proper and no, that's really not the case at allkingsteven
    • lol, and I was going to say "is it weird that I know exactly what auto is saying?"garbage
    • At the end of the day most of the modular I own is duplication of other things.. I originally got into it for the outboard sequencers..autoflavour
    • I flipped 5k in a few days so that should be a buffer .. she hasn’t lost her job yet, but the agency she works for is being thrown under the bus by the premierautoflavour

yet to test, but have been following development of this syncussion plugin for mac (m1 ready) that was released today...

    • Oh man.... I’m just waiting to get my greasy mitts on either a proper kit or that behringer one currently in dev... but def gonna snag the plugin!prophetone
    • bleeding heck - the prices of the original and the psyco x clone!hans_glib
    • i remember when they were going for 150 and i thought it was a rip off :D i have a synth drum modded for external trigger, i see they're going for 500 quid nowkingsteven
    • bought the plugin, it's pretty cool, def worth it for quirky percussion needs, nice to support an indie dev tooprophetone

    Need some advice:

My almost two year when playing with my mixer and turntables tends to focus more in the midi pads from the mixer...thing is I don't have Serato at the moment connected so it's practically useless for her to hit those pads.

So I'm looking for a drum pad that can work without a computer. She hits the pads and plays the sounds. That's it.

She has a keyboard but there she also likes to hit the drum buttons more than anything. I think she likes the lights of the pads and the instant response.

    Any suggestions?

    • WTF?! "my almost two year old daughter..."oey_oey
    • There are some apps you can consider downloading for the iPad which you can then plug into a 4ch mixer.PioneerDJ303
    • Assuming you don’t want something that requires a PC to work and budget suitable for a 2 yr old, the Teenage Engineering PO-12 might work?mort_
    • Doh! you explicitly said without computer. Well the PO-12 is a good option. The pads are a bit small though.mort_
    • Another option might be a used Akai MPC for ~ €200mort_
    • Get her an Octopad, or the Alesis version SamplePad. Loads of fun!futurefood
    • If you're willing to give up an old iPad or iPhone this works great (my kids loved it and easy to use):

    • I mean, she already plays a bit with the iPad but I would o refer her not to hang to it so much but that's seems interestingoey_oey

    • I gonna check that Octpad and Alesis now, thanks you alloey_oey

Anyone tried Smooth Operator? I just got it last night after considering buying Oeksound Soothe to correct some nasty resonances from a guitarist that thinks he's in Sigor Ros. This is just out and seems to do most of what i need at $39 - already finding a ton of uses in the mix... Somewhere inbetween EQ, Compression and Spectral Restoration, surprisingly intuitive UI. About as close to a "sound fucking great" button that i've ever heard.

    https://babyaud.io/smooth-operat…

    • Been looking for a kind of surgical filter for post-recording tweaks. Fabfilter Pro Q looks good. This might do the same job and more for less money.mort_
    • Also, maybe the Ableton EQ 8 is just fine and I want the shiny new thing.mort_
    • pro-eq is fantastic but i find when you get surgical (ie expanding or compressing tight bands for resonance control) any eq will get a bit mushykingsteven
    • I replaced an instance of pro-eq on said guitar part... before/ after: https://imgur.com/a/…
SO surprises all the resonances in the reverb tails without

    • *suppresses, *pro-q - i would suggest pro-q first to anyone that doesn't have it tbh. it is incredibly clean, great mid/side control and very quick to dial inkingsteven
    • Appreciate the recommendation, cheers.mort_
    • Have you played around with NI Guitar Rig? I got that last night inevitably getting lost for 4 hours just in presets. Seems intuitive though and sounds greatIanbolton
    • Gotta get the new Guitar Rig, but i use v5? a ton. This song was tracked live with 2 mics and no DI so I shafted myself there :Dkingsteven

Got round to finishing another tune. Learning a bit more about mastering in Ableton which works means I'm playing more with ambient stuff. Is it worth investing in Soundcloud Pro? Anyone else on here working on anything new?

after two days trying and nothing working...I just solved it!

    I read kinsteven's last comment:
"did you connect the internal jumper cables okay?"

and I thought "yes, i did!"

but I was like "what if i did it wrong without knowing I'm doing it wrong?"

so I jumped out of my room in the 2nd floor and came to my atelier and just screwed the port open and looked at the cables and looked at the instructions and:

    white pin in J2
    colored pin in J3

    correct.

okay let's change the pins to:

    white pin in J3
    colored pin in J2

and it just started to working.

    the fucking instructions are wrong!!!

really thankfully to mort_ and kingsteven fo the comments.
it made me check things several times.

@kingsteven...your question dude made me doubt myself and everything else and bam!

    • sorry my bad English, I'm too excitedoey_oey
    • Awesome. Looks like a great mixer.mort_
    • this has been my dream for years and i didn't want to commit to a full Serato mixer.
I needed a mixer that's also good just for vinyl.
      oey_oey
    • without having to pay over 500€ up to 1000€. I got this one for 200€. I have a Rane SL to connect it and to play with Serato (I'm just starting)...oey_oey
    • with this mixer I have a setup where I just have to change the channel and I'm ready to jump from vinyl to Serato or to Line In without changing cables or sooey_oey
    • hah, good stuff! looking forward to some mixes.kingsteven
    • forgot to thank hans_glib...sorry and thanks bro, wow that was really excitement.oey_oey
    • Nice setup. I use the Kontrol Z2 for similar duties. Being able to switch seamlessly between vinyl and wav files is dope.mort_
    • That's a nice mixer too, I know some people that use it for Serato instead of Traktor. But some people are waiting for a MKII or something newoey_oey

    Pre-ordered Ableton Live 11.
    Used Google Pay to pay.
Google has only charged me £1.
But my Ableton account says I paid the full upgrade amount of £143.

Have never used Google Pay to pay for anything other than apps on my phone so don't know how it works. Thinking this £1 is a holding fee then i'll be charged the remaining £142 at somepoint down the line. So not going to be dancing for joy yet .....

Having a nightmare ATM with my AcidLab Drumatix, loved this drum machine and put it to good use for a few years - basically a 606 with extra controls, 808 rimshot, DR110 clap, an extra 808 kick and snare channel and individual outs and volume knobs per channel. The dream right?!

Well over time a few of the volume knobs had packed in which means it's been shelved for a couple of years. I even put it on eBay last year at a reasonable price, but just got a bunch of low ball offers due to the faults... Finally last week decided I should fix it up.

Wish i'd never opened it FFS

I don't know if it's just an early model but the circuit board is bodged as fuck, components bridging all over the show, all the volume pots are cheap as hell and have had their shafts cut down to fit + two big flimsy rotary switches marked 'MADE IN EAST GERMANY'

After a couple false starts due to a dodgy soldering iron I finally replaced the 4 dodgy knobs with high quality pots and tested it all out yesterday - took about 2 hours just to get the old pots out due to the double sided PCB and close proximity to SMT components... but seemed like a decent job, tested it all out and everything was working perfectly. Started reassembling it in the case one of the rotary switches broke open and out popped a miniscule spring across my studio in to the ether... FUUUUCCKK

Just ordered what I hope to be a suitable replacement spring from China but jaysus - don't think I look at it the same way ever again, or sell the fucking thing with a clear conscience! I see a Behringer RD-8 in my future.

    • Didnt realise that image was so shit http://imgur.com/a/5…kingsteven
    • Find a local place that can service it for reasonable price?prophetone
    • ach, it's more a pain in the ass than something outside my realm of ability - i cant find replacements for the rotaries anywhere and i now know all the originalkingsteven
    • pots will fail and need replaced in time too. i'll get there eventually but the shoddiness of the build is a turn off more than anything.kingsteven
