Great place to live. Much better than what you probably expect, but check the thread - this has been covered before.
PS: Yes, you'll need a car.
- graham4140
Might Be a good place to find a few new friends, definitely going to have to stay away from any drugs to be successful.

The whole 'smog' thing is kinda passe now. I believe once they started making the cargo ships dock in Long Beach instead of the LA Harbor it cleared up.
Pros: Every band on earth plays here once a year, plenty of nice girls to look at, higher than average work possibilities, some nice outdoorsy stuff (if you're willing to drive an hour or two), good restaurants, pretty decent bars.
Cons: Expensive, dating can be a bit tough (yes even for a supremely handsome gentleman such as myself), traffic sucks, pretty much no mass transit.

Isn't it on a huge fault line with a possibility of a massive earthquake? Please prove me wrong.
- monospaced0
It might be on a fault line with a possibility of a massive earthquake, but that's not nearly as dangerous as living in hurricane land.

Besides the sunny smog, earthquakes, wildfires, drought, pollution, and being bankrupt, I see no reason why you should not move to sunny LA!

meh, the earthquake thing is kind of overblown. It's really not like much gets damaged except for property during an earthquake. Sure people do die but you've got better odds of winning he lottery. As monospaced said, I'd be much more worried about living somewhere with hurricanes and tornados. Wildfires too, unless you're on the edge of any of the cities you'd likely never even notice a wildfire. I'm pretty far north as 'LA' goes and we had a fire pretty close to us last year so I did notice it. One morning I went out and the sky was yellow and it was really hard to breathe. But I was about a mile from the fire.

I've been looking for a change, and been wanting to move to California for a while but I'm pretty set here.

summer is here, its pretty hot now. and yes, you need a car unless you live and work, close by.

Besides the expense of living (obviously depends on where you live) every pro easily out weighs the cons, IMO. LA is great, a lot of fun, perfect weather...and every other reason previously stated. Oh and, In & Out Burger, Trader Joes, Roscoes Chicken & Waffles, Zankou Chicken...
- mmmm zankou... drools a littlesixfngers
- Ive been wanting to eat at Roscoes for year. I might have to make a special tripfooler2
- Zankou is so good .. but did you know? http://www.thefreeliā¦tommyo

why do people hate on LA?
- whendog0
Do you surf? I moved out here from NYC over a year ago and I really enjoy it. The best part of LA is the west side, in my opinion, so Santa Monica, Venice, Malibu, Marina Del Rey are all great places to live and work. Downtown has some nice areas. The Valley is kinda lame, so try to avoid that if you can. You will get the worst commute of traffic if you live in the Valley and commute downtown or to the west side...Hope that helps - shoot me an email if u need anything else
