I been working at this design studio for a year and 2 months now and the place is perfect...except for my boss. We're not sure if he's actually human or not, he's a crazy man and among the many annoying things the thing that's making it hard for me to stay there is we haven't been paid on time for about 5 months now.
Its not just us, suppliers are calling up nearly every day abusing cause they havent been paid for even longer than that!
Thing is, he lives in his own world I had a serious talk with him and he 'sincerely' apologised and promised he's sorting stuff out and that would be the last time pay would be late, now 4 days from when I shouldve got it - it's still not there!
I told our production manager I cant work for free and won't be coming back in until I see the dollars in my bank.
The frustrating thing is no words get across to this guy, I can't talk to him about this issue cause really he doesnt care and probably in his twisted mind he imagines he is paying us on time and paying our suppliers. Talking doesnt seem to do anything.
The worst part is I love the place, the people (apart from him) are great, the office is really cool, the work is really good and I don't know if there is a place in Perth I will find like this (the good bits)

I think a bit of both, he doesn't manage well and so he's tries to do everything on his own and because of that it chokes the company. The accountant left because she saw how badly people were being treated and how badly he was running the business. Since then he has been doing (or not doing) the pay

well paying staff is the first thing that should always be done. Is he having a meltdown? Do you have a citizens advice bureau in your country.

You should talk to your colleagues at work about this problem. If you acted coordinated in response to this, you could "force" him to fix the problems. Let's say you all stayed home, until you're payed - just as an example...
If it's a general problem, then you should try to solve it together rather than only having individual heart to heart talks with your boss.

Get the hell out. The situation will never change, and when the place goes belly-up, you will then be competing with your co-workers for new jobs in your area. Oh, and take a shit in the fridge before you go.

I would absolutely start updating your resume and portfolio. Besides the fact that it sounds like your boss is a real tool, if your studio is having difficulty paying vendors and more importantly paying you on time, I strongly believe that the studio's days are numbered.
I have been there and done that with previous firms, thinking that my loyality was worth something, boy I got screwed!!! Start preparing for an exist strategy and get strat looking for a new job, ASAP.

would you guys still recommend I leave knowing that Perth is pretty small and there arent very many good design places to go to? (that I know of anyway?)
