RIP... I saw that story at the beginning of the week and now today this.
My thoughts are with her family.

Harlequino, the sanctity with which we SHOULD regard life does not, and should not derive it's value from the way we flawed humans treat each other and the world around us. Just because we show a lack of respect for life, that does not mean we shouldn't strive for something better. Life is holy. We don't always treat it as such, but we sure as hell should. We should strive to rise above the mistakes of our contemporaries and predecessors by learning from their mistakes, rather than throwing up our hands and saying "ah well, such is life".
- Lebowski: yeah, that is like your opinion man.mrdobolina

I am nevertheless saddened by this woman's plight, and very sad for her family regardless. It's a heartbreaking situation that I wouldn't wish on anyone.

Is it just me or is this going to turn into a religious thread?
- it doesn't have to.Corvo
- well, religion would have a part in this, so it's kind of inevitable.Jaline
- I hope not, i bore easily.YAYPaul
- I just mean we are soon going to have people preaching you're going to hell if you kill yourself.Jnr_Madison
- but "religion" is where most of our social values lie - so i agree w/ Jaline. It's inevitable. It's just... life.Corvo
- look people, you're not allowed to disagree with me, just say 'fucking A' Jnr, you cool bitch!'Jnr_Madison
- fucking A' Jnr, you cool bitch!emukid

If CALLES was a ghost he'd haunt people having sex and whisper 'PIITB'

gramme,
I hear what you are saying and overall agree with you. I got no problem with that. I'm not saying "fuck it, let's start whacking people, and nihilism is right on." Not at all.
I just don't buy the assumption of it. I don't buy that life is soooo valuable that if i am in so much pain, I cannot choose to go on my time, and retain the dignity that I choose. That's all.- I hear you 'quino. I just think it is not our right to play chess with people's lives. We are not gods.gramme
- Speak for yourself. ;)
Call me...Gozer.harlequino - What if you don't believe in god?mrdobolina
- its not "us" playing chess though - its the choice of the individualkelpie

Whatever gives the individual the most dignity I say...

What about putting a dog or cat to sleep?
- i_monk0
Who are you to tell someone they need to spend the rest of their life in agony because maybe they'll win the Jesus lottery and get a miracle cure? You're not the one in pain, you don't get that choice.
- gramme0
i_monk:
Who are you to play God and decide who dies and who lives based on what they ask for?
- Last I checked there was a thing called Free Will at least in regards to one's own life...TheBlueOne
- this assumes you believe in God, don't thrust your beliefs on people.mrdobolina
- basic disconnect between the faithful and the non faithful here. No hope of resolution of argument.kelpie
- CALLES0
wait.... last time i checked we had a god that didn't let this thing happend.... did i miss something?
- Drno0
call me stupid but miracle don't happen on daily basis
if one wishes to die to escape suffering from a deadly disease,
I think we should allow him/her to do it- Agreed. Although their should be a strict legal framework for this.TheBlueOne

So you guys think suicide is acceptable? Even if a person is not in physical pain? Even if it's textbook depression that can be treated?
How do you not see that euthanasia and suicide are the same thing? The ONLY difference is in who pulls the trigger.
There is no dignity in suicide, regardless of how much pain one feels. The idea of a dignified suicide sounds like the samurai way to me...it implies an intrinsic misunderstanding of what true courage looks like.
- You think you have an insight into this and maybe you do but I doubt it.Jnr_Madison
- this is your opinion.mrdobolina
- not your choice - not your experiencekelpie
- i_monk0
gramme - I'm not the one deciding, THEY ARE. That's the idea. I think they should have the right to decide it, but that's not the same as being the one who decides they will die.

Shame on whoever incited the religious slant and shame on whoever first took the bait. You're a fucken disgrace, both of ye.
- this is automatically a religious conversation.mrdobolina
- bollocks mate, it got incited. To incite it is as bad as to reply. Both are totally disrespectful to the poor woman.emecks
- Not it's not.Jnr_Madison
- That wasn't aimed at you MX.Jnr_Madison
- look where it went. a blind man could have seen that it was going to happen.mrdobolina
- Point is it 'shouldn't' be a religious debate.YAYPaul

Good luck with your poisoned logic, my friends. I hop your loved ones treat you better. I have work to do.
Peace.

Actually, I'm not that against suicide, Gramme. That's conditional, obviously, on that individual and that individual's support structures (also known as 'family', or 'friends') having done as much for them as they can.
Ultimately though - I have no problem with someone wanting to end their life - why the hell is it any of my business?
- ie. Who am I to presume that I, or my belief system, is any better or any more justifiable than theirs? Arrogance!detritus
- exactly.mrdobolina
- sikma0
the problem with most peoples opinions on assisted suicide is that there just that. opinions.
and miracles? what are you 5 years old? does it look a miracle was going to happen?
